Tarragona Cruise Port (Spain) reached a significant operational milestone on Sunday, August 2nd by welcoming three cruise ships simultaneously for the first time this season. MSC Cruises' MSC Virtuosa, NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Dawn and Viking Cruises' Viking Star called at the Balears Wharf, where embarkation, disembarkation and transit operations were carried out throughout the day. A total of 12,508 passengers passed through the port facilities, bringing Tarragona's seasonal total to 37 cruise calls and 68,263 passengers since the start of the season in early April.
Port authorities continue to forecast 80 cruise calls and ~160,000 passengers during the 2026 season. Achieving those figures would establish a new record for cruise traffic at the Port of Tarragona.
Both MSC Virtuosa and Norwegian Dawn made their inaugural visits to Tarragona, while Viking Star returned after her first call on June 21st. MSC Virtuosa arrived from Palma de Mallorca carrying 6,338 passengers as part of a 14-day itinerary linking the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, with scheduled calls including Southampton, Lisbon, Cádiz, Málaga, Alicante, Gibraltar and A Coruña. The 331-metre vessel, which entered service in 2021 and carries a crew of 1,704, is scheduled to make a second visit to Tarragona later this year as part of MSC Cruises' programme of 32 calls during the 2026 season.
Norwegian Dawn also played a key role in the day's operations, with 2,623 passengers disembarking and 2,647 embarking for an 8-day voyage from Tarragona to Lisbon. The itinerary includes calls at Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Motril, Gibraltar, Cádiz and Portimão. The 294-metre ship, carrying a crew of 1,032, was making the first of two scheduled visits to Tarragona in 2026 and one of three calls planned by Norwegian Cruise Line during the season.
