Carnival Splendor New Zealand voyage removed from schedule due to charter arrangement

CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has withdrawn a scheduled 10-night voyage aboard the cruise ship Carnival Splendor after the vessel was reserved under a full-ship charter arrangement. The sailing, originally planned to depart Sydney on October 12th, 2027, had been advertised as a round-trip itinerary exploring ports around New Zealand’s North Island.

Passengers already holding reservations were informed by the company that the voyage would not proceed as a public sailing. In its notification to guests, the cruise line explained that the vessel had been chartered and that the previously scheduled cruise would therefore be cancelled.

Although the identity of the chartering organization has not been disclosed, the voyage itself is understood to remain on the ship’s program, operating privately rather than as part of the line’s commercial schedule. As a result, the itinerary—planned to circle the North Island with calls including Napier, Tauranga, Auckland and the Bay of Islands—will no longer be available for individual bookings.

CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has offered affected passengers several alternatives. Guests may transfer their booking to another voyage while retaining the fare of their original reservation in comparable accommodations. Those who choose to reschedule are also eligible for an onboard credit of approximately US$100 per stateroom on the replacement sailing. Alternatively, travelers may decline a new booking and receive a full refund covering the cruise fare together with any pre-purchased services or amenities.

The cancelled itinerary was regarded as a relatively uncommon offering within the company’s program. Voyages to New Zealand are scheduled less frequently than sailings to other South Pacific destinations, and the 10-night route around the North Island provided a more extensive itinerary than the shorter cruises typically departing from Sydney.

Some travelers seeking an alternative passage to New Zealand may consider voyages aboard other ships in the region, including Carnival Adventure, which is expected to operate certain departures from New Zealand ports in 2027. However, replacing the Sydney-based itinerary may prove difficult for some passengers, as additional travel arrangements—such as flights and land transfers—could increase the overall cost of the journey.
