While en route from Texas to Cozumel (Mexico), the crew of Carnival Legend, a SPIRIT-class from the fleet of CCL-Carnival Cruise Line, responded to a distress situation encountered during a nighttime transit in the Gulf of Mexico.
The incident occurred after emergency flares were observed from the ship, prompting officers to alter attention toward their source. A sailing vessel was subsequently identified in difficulty, and a rescue craft was deployed. The operation resulted in the recovery of a lone sailor and a cat named Dahlia, both of whom had been aboard the stricken boat.
Following their retrieval, the individuals were brought safely aboard Carnival Legend, where the ship’s medical personnel assumed responsibility for the sailor’s care.
The precise location of the rescue was not disclosed, though the vessel had departed Galveston TX earlier in the voyage and was proceeding along its scheduled route at the time of the incident.
