HAL-Holland America Line has opened bookings for the first voyages of the Oosterdam following its scheduled debut as the inaugural vessel in the company’s Holland America Evolution modernization program, described as the largest fleet investment undertaken in the line’s 153-year history. The programme will introduce a series of structural and hospitality upgrades intended to extend features associated with the newer Pinnacle-class vessels across additional ships in the fleet.

The renewed Oosterdam is due to re-enter service in December 2027 with a deployment covering Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of North America. Eight itineraries across 15 departures have been released, offering guests the first opportunity to sail aboard the vessel following the completion of the refit programme.

Among the principal additions are newly designed accommodation categories reflecting changing passenger preferences. Solo travellers will, for the first time on the ship, have access to purpose-built Solo Verandah cabins equipped with private balconies and dedicated work areas. The refurbishment will also introduce Bridgeview Suites overlooking the bow, Vista Suites and a redesigned Pinnacle Suite extending across 1,550 square feet with separate living and sleeping areas, private balcony space and expanded residential-style facilities.

Michael Stendebach, senior vice president of food, beverage and rooms division for Holland America Line, indicated that the company regarded the Evolution programme as a major development for both the fleet and the guest experience. He noted that passengers boarding the renewed Oosterdam would encounter redesigned public areas and new hospitality concepts, including the Grand Dutch Café, intended to create a more refined and contemporary atmosphere on board.

The Grand Dutch Café, previously limited to Pinnacle-class ships, will become part of Oosterdam’s public spaces as part of the modernization. Inspired by Dutch and northern European café culture, the venue will serve coffee, pastries and light dining throughout the day while reinforcing the company’s Dutch heritage.

The vessel’s first post-refit itinerary is scheduled to depart Barcelona on December 2nd, 2027 on a 7-day Western Mediterranean voyage calling at Málaga, Valencia, Lisbon and Tangier before the ship continues on a 13-day Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale. Guests will also have the option to combine the voyages into a longer Collectors’ sailing.

During the winter 2027–2028 season, Oosterdam will operate a series of Southern Caribbean itineraries from Fort Lauderdale, including voyages to the ABC Islands and holiday departures over the Christmas period. In spring 2028, the vessel will transit the Panama Canal en route to the Pacific coast, with calls planned in Central America, Mexico and the Pacific Northwest.

Holland America Line stated that the wider Evolution initiative will involve six vessels undergoing bow-to-stern revitalization programmes over several years. The project focuses on expanding accommodation options, adding signature venues and refreshing public areas while maintaining the company’s emphasis on mid-sized ships designed for extended destination-focused voyages.
