Cruise operators have welcomed the completion of a new tender berth pier at the Old Port of Mykonos, describing the development as a modest but significant infrastructure improvement aimed at strengthening safety, streamlining passenger movement and improving the overall arrival experience for cruise guests.
Five Senses Consulting, acting as cruise development consultant for the destination, worked alongside the Mykonos Port Authority and cruise line stakeholders to identify operational requirements, coordinate industry feedback and support the alignment of the project with the expectations of the cruise sector.
The new facility has been designed to accommodate up to four tenders closer to the Old Port, creating a more efficient and secure connection between tender operations and Mykonos Town. Cruise operators had for some time identified improved access between arriving tenders and the Old Port area as a priority for the destination.
Industry representatives noted that the initial arrival ashore forms an important part of the guest experience, with smooth and well-managed disembarkation contributing to the reputation of Mykonos as a leading cruise destination in the Mediterranean.
The pier will operate within the International Ship and Port Facility Security framework, supporting the security procedures required for certified port operations. Stakeholders involved in the project indicated that, for a destination with Mykonos’ international standing, safety, security and passenger handling remain closely linked to overall service standards.
Five Senses Consulting stated that the new tender service is expected to commence shortly and is anticipated to contribute to higher operational standards at the port. The company indicated that bringing tender operations closer to the Old Port in a more structured manner should reduce congestion, improve access to the town and support local businesses and tourism activity across the island.
Although limited in scale, the new tender berth is regarded as a practical step toward improving port functionality and supporting cruise operations in one of Greece’s busiest island destinations.
