MSC Cruises has confirmed that its new flagship, MSC World Asia, will be officially named in Le Havre, France, on November 28th, shortly before the vessel enters service in the Mediterranean.

The ceremony will bring together representatives of the international travel sector, industry partners, media and VIP guests for the traditional christening of the third vessel in MCS's WORLD series.

The event will include the customary naming traditions associated with newbuild passenger ships, including the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle against the bow. Following the celebrations in Le Havre, MSC World Asia is scheduled to commence her inaugural Mediterranean season from Barcelona on December 4th, 2026. The vessel will operate 7-night itineraries calling at Marseille, Messina, Civitavecchia, Naples and Valletta, with embarkation available at each port of call.

MSC's Chief Executive Officer Gianni Onorato stated that the World Class programme had proven successful with guests and that World Asia represented the next stage in the development of the series. He noted that the vessel continues the company’s emphasis on innovation, design and guest experience while building upon the foundations established by her sister ships.

Onorato also confirmed the appointment of Captain Paolo Benini as master of the new flagship. The company indicated that the selection reflected his leadership aboard MSC Euribia and his extensive maritime experience. MSC Cruises further noted that Benini’s people-focused command style and operational record made him a suitable choice to lead the vessel into service.

MSC World Asia is the third vessel in MSC's LNG-powered World Class fleet, following MSC World Europa and MSC World America. Designed with Asian-inspired elements, the ship will feature more than 40 bars, lounges and dining venues, together with a range of entertainment and family-oriented facilities. Among the design highlights are a prominent dragon sculpture in the World Promenade and a reimagined version of the line’s signature dry slide attraction.

The vessel’s inaugural deployment will focus on the Western Mediterranean during both the winter and summer 2026–2027 seasons, offering year-round access to some of the region’s principal cruise destinations.
