NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has revised the itinerary of Norwegian Sun after the vessel experienced propulsion-related technical issues that require it to operate at a reduced speed. The company confirmed that the matter affects the ship's sailing schedule but does not compromise the safety of guests or crew.
Captain Teo Radun informed guests over the ship's public address system that the technical issue was limiting the vessel's speed while emphasizing that onboard safety remained unaffected. Norwegian Cruise Line subsequently advised passengers of a series of itinerary changes, including cancelled port calls, revised arrival times and compensation measures.
As a result of the reduced operating speed, scheduled calls at Nynäshamn (Stockholm), Sweden, and Klaipėda, Lithuania, have been cancelled and replaced with additional days at sea. The planned visit to Gdynia, Poland, has also been removed from the itinerary and substituted with a call at Rønne, Denmark, on the island of Bornholm. The cruise line described the Danish port as a coastal destination noted for its scenery and relaxed atmosphere.
Several remaining port calls have also been adjusted to accommodate the revised schedule.
To compensate affected guests, Norwegian Cruise Line is providing a non-refundable onboard credit of US$100 per stateroom, shared equally between the first two occupants, together with a 25% Future Cruise Credit for each passenger. The future cruise credit may be applied to new bookings made within the next 12 months for sailings departing by December 31st, 2027 and will become available from July 3rd, 2026.
The company also confirmed that shore excursions booked through Norwegian Cruise Line for the cancelled calls at Nynäshamn, Klaipėda and Gdynia will be automatically cancelled and refunded to guests' onboard accounts. Excursions in Copenhagen, Warnemünde and Kiel will be adjusted to reflect the revised port schedules where possible, with refunds issued if revised arrangements cannot be accommodated.
Norwegian Cruise Line acknowledged the disruption to the voyage and indicated that it remained committed to providing a rewarding Baltic cruise experience, encouraging guests to enjoy the additional time at sea and the newly added call at Rønne.
