Fincantieri Italy has been awarded a new order for the construction of two new-concept gas powered cruise ships (LNG-powered / by Liquified Natural Gas), from TUI Cruises (joint venture company between RCCL Royal Caribbean and TUI AG).

The new units (Schiff 8 and Schiff 9) will be built at Monfalcone shipyard (Trieste Italy) and are scheduled for delivery in 2024 and in 2026, respectively.

The ships, of about 161,000 GT, are expected to set up the backbone of the future TUI fleet. The order is based upon a prototype project by Fincantieri enhancing the well-established features of sustainability of TUI Cruises, a cruise company with one of the world's most environmentally friendly cruise fleets.

Energy efficiency is at the heart of the project, with innovative product configuration and twofold objective of reducing fuel consumption as well as minimizing environmental impact, according to the latest cruise industry regulations.
