Costa Luminosa Rescues Fish Carrier's Crew

Costa Luminosa has rescued the crew of a fish carrier that was on fire off Aegean Sea, saving 11 people onboard.

Around midnight on Tuesday, November 20, the ship of the Italian company Costa Cruises, which was sailing south of Peloponnese to Katakolon port, received a request for intervention from Hellenic Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center of Piraeus to aid fish carrier “Kilic 1”, in distress due to fire onboard.

Under the guidance of Capt. Pietro Sinisi, the Luminosa ship deviated from her route to reach the boat. Despite the smoke coming from the fish carrier and the adverse weather and sea conditions, with wind at 30 knots and 2-meter waves, the rescue operations were successful.

The 11 crew members were recovered from the boat's bow by a Luminosa tender and transhipped on a cargo vessel previously involved in operations by Greek Coast Guard. All are reportedly in good health.

Later, Luminosa resumed the route to Katakolon, which is one of the call ports included in her 1-week itinerary to discover Greece, Croatia & Montenegro, with departures from Bari and Venice, offered by the ship until the end of 2018.
