After the discovery on the 6:40 am crossing, police bomb disposal experts rushed to the accident scene. All passengers and crew members had to be evacuated amid fears over the nature of the package. According to a P&O Ferries spokesman, a suspicious package had been found on one of their ships Saturday morning, and the authorities were in attendance, with all passengers and non-essential crew evacuated as a precaution.
Passengers on the canceled 6:40 am and 7:25 am departures were allocated to other crossings. There were delays of ~2 hours on the Dover-Calais routes.
