More and Larger Cruise Ships Expected in Subic Bay Freeport

Subic Bay Freeport (Luzon Island, Philippines) expects more cruise ships in 2020 as the SBMA (Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority) continues to upgrade maritime facilities in order to increase cruise shipping traffic.

According to SBMA Chairman and Administrator Wilma Eisma, the agency had already booked a total of 40 cruise ship berthings for 2020. On top of that, 4 confirmed arrivals and 1 tentative booking had been posted for 2021, she revealed.

Eisma said that beginning January 2020, they should be seeing more and larger cruise ships in Subic. That included Spectrum of the Seas, which would dock on December 27, and then come back for another call on January 20, 2020. Then on February 28, the sistership Quantum of the Seas would arrive.

In 2019, the 15 cruise ship arrivals from January through October generated a total of 38,985 visitors and an income of P8.07M for SBMA Seaport. The latest cruise liner to arrive in Subic was Genting's World Dream, on December 11.
