Rio Expects 80,000 Cruisers for New Year’s Eve

More than 80,000 travellers on 14 cruise ships will disembark on Pier Maua during the week of Christmas to attend the New Year’s Eve party in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

A total of 20,000 cruisers are expected only on December 31st to see the fireworks show in Copacabana, Rio's South Zone. During cruising season 2019-2020 (that started in October and runs until April 2020), a total of 112 dockings of 37 different vessels are expected. The 2019-2020 season commenced on October 20 with World Explorer.

Gomes said that was a growing season because “foreign shipowners turn their gaze to the Brazilian coast as a destination spot. Therefore, we see a very significant increase,” in the number of travellers arriving at the port city.

Pier Maua operations manager reported that it was important since it introduced BRL 500 million (US$ 122 million) in Rio’s economy just in the 6-month season.
