Review of ms Nieuw Amsterdam deck 11 (Observation)

  • Crow’s Nest (165 seats) is a fore-located observation lounge with panoramic windows, its own bar and large dance floor. The lounge is also used for pre-scheduled events by the Holland America Line's enrichment program, which includes daily dance classes, trivia games, cards playing, karaoke, HAL Cats (8-piece party band) performances, live grand piano performances (in the afternoons and evenings). Crow’s Nest becomes a disco (dance club) at night, with live DJ music and dance contests. During the ship's last refurbishment, the Crow’s Nest bar lounge was renamed "Explorations Central" and its interior was redesigned. The new venue's programming additionally features multimedia series of interactive videos and guides related to the visited destinations part of MS Nieuw Amsterdam's itinerary program. The new Explorations Central (abbrev EXC) provides digital media (videos, ebooks, maps) which passengers can access via Wi-Fi during the current cruise, but also online (before and after the voyage). At the Explorations Central there are also paperback books and paper maps for all the visited by the ship destinations and ports of call.
  • Explorations Cafe (113 seats patisserie and specialty coffee bar), also serving as the Nieuw Amsterdam ship’s Library (with 1000+ volumes, librarian services, book discussions, guest lecturers, puzzle tables, board games), and Online Centre (Internet computers room/partnership with “The New York Times”)
  • Cabana Club (adults-only area with private cabanas available for hire per day/different portday and seaday prices; with concierge service, 1 massage tent, lunch included)
  • Silk Den (50 seats Asian themed lounge with panoramic views, also serving Saketini/sake with martini)
  • Tamarind Restaurant (capacity 142 seats) is a reservation-only Asian specialty restaurant with port/starboard panoramic views. The menu includes Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Asian cuisine specialties. The restaurant is open for complimentary lunch, while dinner is surcharged PP. Tamarind restaurant’s sushi menu is created by chef Andy Matsuda, and additionally includes 4 of his signature rolls.
  • Sports Court (multi-sports combined court- basketball, volleyball, soccer).
  • Along with the gourmet dining and relaxation options, the top deck also provides some of the ship’s best vantage points to make photos and enjoy the port- and sea views along the Nieuw Amsterdam itinerary route.
  • Observation Deck also has Spa cruise cabins from VT11001 to VT11010, all of which are Veranda Spa Staterooms category VT.
