The list of Nieuw Amsterdam cabins by type includes a total of 116 Suites, 602 Balcony cabins (67% of all accommodations), 179 Oceanviews and 156 Inside cabins. There are 38 cabin categories in total. Of all cruise accommodations, 86% are outside cabins. Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 30, and there are 280 connecting staterooms.

Nieuw Amsterdam has a total of 56 Spa cabins, including 2x Deluxe Suites, 46x Deluxe Oceanview, 4x Oceanview and 4x Inside. “Juliet Balcony” (aka balconette, or false balcony) cabins are located on Deck 11 (VT-category Spa cabins).

All Nieuw Amsterdam staterooms, regardless of type or grade, offer the following standard amenities: a spacious sleeping area (2 twin beds convertible to a queen-size double bed), brand mattresses with luxury bedding sets (HAL's signature "Mariner's Dream"), en-suite bathroom (wall-mounted toilet, shower cubicle, massage showerheads, 5x magnifying mirror, quality hairdryer, terry bathrobes, Egyptian cotton towels, Elemis luxury bath products), individual air-conditioning, lounge/sitting area (sofabed, vanity table with magnifying mirror), smart HDTV (infotainment system, Internet, on-demand movies), DVD player (DVD library), direct-dial phone, electronic safe box and lifejackets (in the closet), personal stationery, fresh fruits (upon request), ice bucket, serving tray (in-cabin drinks), complimentary services (ice, shoeshine, nightly turndown).

All Suites and Balcony cabins feature floor-to-ceiling sliding doors opening onto a private veranda with lounge furniture (1 table and 2 chairs; Penthouses additionally have sun loungers and small tables).

Pinnacle and Signature Suites additionally have twin beds convertible to a king-size bed, bathrooms with whirlpool bathtubs and a dressing room. (SS, SY, SQ-Spa) Signature Suites have 2 lower beds convertible to a king-size bed, one 1-person Murphy bed (aka wall bed/pull-down bed), bathroom (dual-sink vanity, oversized towels, full-size hot tub/shower plus shower stall), sitting area (mini-bar), and floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto a step-out balcony.

Wheelchair-accessible cabins (for disabled passengers) are available in categories SA-Neptune Suite, SY-Signature Suite, V-VA-VB-Balcony, H-Oceanview and I-Interior.

Spa cabin categories are SU-Spa Suite, VQ-Spa Balcony, CQ-Spa Oceanview and IQ-Spa Inside (all located on Panorama Deck 10), plus VT-Spa Balcony on Observation Deck 11. Additional perks for Spa stateroom guests include organic bathrobes, slippers, iPod station, yoga mats, pedometer, fitness-themed DVD, specialty bottled water and a tray with cut fruits (delivered daily).

Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam passengers booking Suite categories enjoy the following "perks" (bonus amenities):

During MS Nieuw Amsterdam's drydock refurbishment in 2017, each Suite was upgraded with:

• (new) sofa, chairs, headboard, carpet, wall coverings, privacy curtain, drapery, bed runner, bed skirt, quartz stone top (on the vanity), vanity lighting, dresser, dressing table, nightstands
• (new) 1 USB outlet (on the bed’s headboard), bedside LED reading lights, additional electrical outlets, lighted closet rod
• (new) interactive TV system allowing complimentary movies-on-demand, access to the ship's daily activities program, checking onboard accounts, Internet, ship information (restaurants, bars, deck plans, spa services, etc)
• All suite bathrooms received a wall of designer glass tiles (backdrop to the new dressing area with a new stone top, modern taps, undermount bath sink), new mirrors (with integrated LED lighting), stylish floor tiles and nightlight.
