Costa Magica (2004-built, last refurbished in 2017 December, planned refurbishment in 2022) is the fifth (last) DESTINY-class vessel - together with Costa Cruises ship (fleetmate) Costa Fortuna and the CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's boats Destiny-Sunshine, Triumph-Sunrise, Victory-Radiance.
IMPORTANT: In 2022-Q2, Costa Magica will join CCL-Carnival's fleet following an extensive drydock refit and refurbishment.
Costa Magica cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1354 staterooms for 2698 passengers (max capacity is 3250) served by 1070 crew-staff. The boat has 13 passenger-accessible decks (all named after famous Italian painters, 8 are with cabins), 4 restaurants, 11 lounges and bars, 4 swimming pools (one with retractable glass roof), 6 Jacuzzis (outdoor whirlpool hot tubs), 12 elevators. Magica has no self-service laundromats on board.
Magica has over 5500 artworks on display at various places throughout the ship.
Besides the ship's staff and crew, Costa cruise passengers are also served by Peper robots - the latest cyborg technology implemented fleetwide in 2016. These humanoid robots greet and guide passengers upon embarkation. They also assist them throughout the cruise by providing information and tips on onboard dining, entertainment, enrichment program (workshops, pre-scheduled events), casino and shopping promotions, shore excursions and tours. Pepper robots are mobile and communicate in 3 languages (English, German, Italian). They can also interpret human emotions by analyzing voice tones and facial expressions.
Costa Magica drydock 2017 refurbishment review
The ship's 2017 drydock refurbishment (November 25 - December 1) was done at Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard (Marseille France). Along with the general maintenance works, the ship also received significant upgrades of its public areas and interior.
- Vicenza Club Restaurant and Bellagio Buffet Restaurant were renovated with new layouts and updated galley/kitchen areas. The updates now allow Suite passengers and Costa Club Diamond Pearl (loyalty program) members to enjoy the Vicenza Club Restaurant. The Buffet Bellagio's layout was improved with more efficient space allocation.
- The ship's wellness complex (gym and spa) was extensively renovated. A new relaxation room, sauna room, and thalassotherapy area were added.
- Gelateria Amarillo (premium ice-cream shop) was added. The new ice-cream bar offers Italian gelato with Agrimontana flavorings.
- During the refit was also installed a digital signage system consisting of high-res monitors and interactive touch screens.
