Carnival Radiance (originally built in 2000 as "Carnival Victory", last refurbished in 2024 / Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade in 2018) is the third and final ship in the Destiny-class of Carnival Cruise Line vessels—alongside Destiny-Sunshine and Triumph-Sunrise, plus two sister ships from Costa Cruises—Magica and Fortuna.
The Carnival Radiance deck plan includes a total of 1,448 staterooms for 2,896 passengers (maximum capacity 3,475), served by 1,040 crew members. The ship has 13 passenger decks (9 with staterooms), 18 lounges and bars, 4 swimming pools (one with a retractable glass roof), 7 outdoor Jacuzzis (whirlpool hot tubs), and 18 elevators. When sailing as Carnival Victory, the vessel had 1,387 staterooms accommodating 2,754 passengers (maximum capacity 3,470), with a crew of 1,090.
Carnival Radiance features 52 Suites, 503 Balcony cabins, 310 Oceanview cabins, 21 Porthole cabins, and 565 Inside cabins. Self-service launderettes are located on all cabin decks and operate daily from 6:30 am to midnight. Laundry services are charged at $3.25 per washer or dryer load and $1.50 per box of detergent or water softener (vending machine). Each launderette includes 2–3 washers, 2–3 dryers, and one ironing station. Machines operate with coins only (Sail & Sign cards not accepted). While in port, washers are unavailable (only dryers and irons can be used). Valet laundry service is also available through the cabin steward, with wash-and-press services ranging from $2 to $7.50 and dry-cleaning from $3 to $10.50 per item.
Carnival Victory to Radiance 2020–2021 Refurbishment Overview
During the extensive refit between March 21 and October 17 (conducted at Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain), the ship underwent a $200 million transformation and was renamed Carnival Radiance. Following the refurbishment, Radiance's passenger capacity (double occupancy) increased from 2,774 to 2,984, with a max capacity of 3,475. Crew capacity rose from 1,040 to 1,108, and total staterooms increased from 1,387 to 1,448.
As Carnival Victory, the ship featured 530 Interior, 327 Oceanview, 472 Balcony staterooms, and 50 Suites, with 18 Carnival Spa cabins and 31 wheelchair-accessible cabins. The Grand Suites were the largest accommodations, measuring 32 m² (345 ft²) with 8 m² (90 ft²) verandas and a capacity of up to 4 passengers.
As Carnival Radiance, the vessel offers 1,448 staterooms, including 52 Suites, 503 Balcony cabins (including 8 Premium), 310 Oceanview cabins (6 Scenic), 21 Porthole cabins, and 565 Interior cabins (18 Small), plus 93 "Cloud 9 Spa" cabins (63 Balcony, 30 Interior). The largest accommodations are the two Captain’s Suites, each measuring 47 m² (500 ft²) with 14 m² (150 ft²) verandas, accommodating up to 5 guests.
New venues added during the 2020–2021 reconstruction include:
- Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse (by Guy Fieri) and Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse
- Bonsai Sushi
- Cucina del Capitano (Italian restaurant)
- RedFrog Pub
- Piano Bar 88
- Chef’s Table (VIP dining experience) relocated to the ship’s forward dining room
- Big Chicken (fleet first), a Shaquille O’Neal concept restaurant serving fried chicken sandwiches, sliders, strips, chicken-and-egg biscuits, breakfast items, salads, sides, and kids' meals—offered as a complimentary grab-and-go venue, similar to Guy’s Burger Joint
The ship also received a redesigned WaterWorks park featuring the AquaTunnel waterslide, and an upgraded SportSquare outdoor activity area with a suspended ropes course. All staterooms were completely renovated.
Carnival Victory 2018 Drydock Refurbishment Review
During the drydock refit from January 5–20, 2018, in Freeport, Bahamas, the following upgrades were implemented:
- New dining and bar venues were added: Guy’s Burger Joint, RedFrog Rum Bar, BlueIguana Cantina, BlueIguana Tequila Bar, Bonsai Sushi Express, and Cherry on Top. The buffet deli was also redesigned.
- Two new Captain’s Suites (820 ft² each) were introduced, each featuring an extended balcony, two full-size bathrooms, separate bedroom, and living room.
- New Oceanview staterooms added: Scenic Oceanview (260 ft²) and Scenic Grand Oceanview (320 ft²).
- Lido Deck 9 received new cabin categories: Scenic Oceanview (6J – rooms #9196–9199), Scenic Grand Oceanview (6K – rooms #9200–9201), and Captain’s Suite (CS – rooms #9202–9203).
- Lido Deck 9 also gained Guy’s Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina (Mexican eatery for fresh burritos and tacos with salsa bar), as well as the BlueIguana Tequila Bar for frozen drinks and beers.
- Promenade Deck 5 saw the addition of Cherry on Top (a candy shop offering gifts, apparel, and toys).
- Deck 12’s Camp Carnival was transformed into Camp Ocean (Carnival's upgraded youth program).
- Technical enhancements included the addition of shoreside power connectivity.
