Review of L'Austral deck 3 (Calicut-Hospital-Lobby-Lounge)

Medical Center is the ship’s Infirmary (hospital) operated by resident doctors and nurses on 24-hour duty. Payments are made by the boarding pass (treatments equivalent to a private doctor’s visit). General health insurance policies do not apply, so buying cruise health insurance is recommended.

L’Austral ship’s Atrium is a 2-deck high open-floor design area. The Lobby level has both entrances (for passenger embarkation/disembarkation) and features a modern chandelier with Swarovski crystals cascading from the ceiling.

Main Lounge (named “Karikal Lounge”) has a large-size LED screen, floor-ceiling windows on both sides and ample comfortable seating. The lounge offers early breakfast (6:30-10 am), specialty teas/coffees, cookies, fruits, and serves Afternoon Tea (from 4 pm) complemented with gourmet cookies and cakes, luxury brand biscuits and differently flavored fine chocolates. The evening entertainment program features live music performances (by a resident pianist and singer) and once per L’Austral cruise – an art auction. There is an outdoor aft terrace with lounges and soft chairs. This is the only smoking-allowed area on board. At the Main Lounge are offered daily ballroom dance classes by the ship’s dancers.

Boutique Shop sells mostly designer clothing and luxury jewelry, along with Ponant Cruises logo merchandise and some special occasion gifts.

Reception desk provides 24-hour guest services (including purser and reservations).

Excursion desk is for booking Ponant Cruises tours and excursions ashore.

Calicut Deck cruise cabins from 300 to 337, most of which are DEL-Deluxe balcony rooms, and 8 are SP3-Superior staterooms (fore-located oceanview cabins / without balconies).
