MV Hondius (2019-built) is the first of Oceanwide Expeditions’ newest vessels, joined by her fleetmates Janssonius (2022, sistership), Ortelius (1989), Plancius (1976), and the polar sailing ships Noorderlicht (1991) and Rembrandt van Rijn (1994). The newbuilds Hondius and Janssonius are LR-PC6 (Lloyd’s Register Polar Class 6) expedition vessels with ice-strengthened hulls.
The Hondius deck plan includes 82 cabins for 174 passengers (maximum capacity 196) and a crew/staff of 76. The ship has five passenger-accessible decks (four with cabins), one Dining Room restaurant, three bars and lounges, two sundeck areas, rigid-hulled Zodiac boats (inflatable motorized craft used for landings), and a helipad located forward on the top deck. The vessel has no elevators or swimming pool/Jacuzzis.
