On May 5, 2025, Greenock Cruise Port initiated its operations under the management of Global Ports Holding (GPH) with the arrival of the cruise vessel MSC Preziosa. This event marked the port's first cruise call as part of GPH's global network, following a 50-year agreement signed in March 2025 between GPH and Clydeport Operations Limited, a subsidiary of Peel Ports Group.
The arrival of MSC Preziosa was observed by Captain Lorenzo Sapeti, Ian Kay, Liverpool Cruise Port Operations Manager, and Gary Lyons, port agent from Denholm Port Services. Passengers were welcomed with a traditional Scottish greeting, featuring local bagpiper John MacInnes.
John Mawer, General Manager of Greenock and Liverpool Cruise Ports, noted that this inaugural cruise call under GPH's management represented a significant milestone for Greenock, reflecting the collective efforts of all parties involved. He expressed anticipation for the port's future contributions to the local economy and tourism sector.
Strategically situated on the Firth of Clyde, approximately 25 miles west of Glasgow, Greenock Cruise Port offers access to prominent Scottish destinations, including Edinburgh, Loch Lomond, and the Scottish Highlands. The port features a dedicated cruise terminal and is equipped to accommodate vessels up to 340 meters in length, with a quay depth of 10 meters. Its proximity to Glasgow International Airport, located 26 kilometers away, ensures convenient connectivity for cruise passengers.
The integration of Greenock Cruise Port into GPH's portfolio underscores the company's commitment to enhancing cruise operations and promoting sustainable growth within Scotland's cruise tourism industry.
