Oceania Cruises has officially commenced construction on its newest vessel, Oceania Sonata, with a ceremonial steel-cutting held at Fincantieri's yard in Marghera (Venice, Italy).

This marks the beginning of a new class of ships for Oceania, known as the Sonata Class, with Oceania Sonata scheduled to enter service in 2027, followed by the sister-ship Oceania Arietta in 2029.

The forthcoming Oceania Sonata will become the largest vessel in the fleet, accommodating up to 1,460 guests. The ship represents the ninth addition to Oceania's lineup and continues the brand’s longstanding collaboration with the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri—a partnership that has spanned nearly two decades.

The vessel is being positioned as a continuation of the line’s focus on culinary excellence and destination-rich itineraries that emphasize access to smaller, less-frequented ports. While specific details of Oceania Sonata’s maiden itinerary remain forthcoming, the line has confirmed that the ship will launch during the northern hemisphere’s summer of 2027.

Company leadership indicated that the Oceania Sonata embodies the evolution of its luxury offering, integrating the company’s established standards of comfort and refinement with new design enhancements, while remaining closely aligned with the aesthetic and craftsmanship hallmarks for which its ships are known.
