CCL-Carnival signals June 2026 launch of Carnival Rewards featuring dual-earning structure

CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has announced a transformation of its loyalty scheme, introducing a revamped rewards structure set to debut in June 2026 under the new name Carnival Rewards™. This marks a shift in the industry, as the program introduces a points-based system that rewards guests for onboard and fare spending, rather than solely basing status on nights at sea.

Under Carnival Rewards, guests will accumulate two separate metrics: redeemable points for CCL purchases and status-qualifying “stars” that determine membership tier—Red, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond. Whereas the current “Very Important Fun Person™ (VIFP)” program measures status by nights sailed, the new model factors in spending across cruise fares and onboard activities.

A cornerstone of this program is integration with the forthcoming Carnival Rewards Barclaycard Mastercard. Cardholders will be able to earn both points and stars through everyday use, accelerating their progression; further details regarding the credit card remain forthcoming.

Christine Duffy (CCL's President) explained that the revamped loyalty strategy aims to enhance meaningful recognition for guests, ensuring that higher-tier members benefit from both frequent cruising and broader engagement. She suggested that the VIFP model, while effective, presented limitations in delivering enhanced experiences for top-tier members.

During a transition period, existing status will transfer into Carnival Rewards. Guests will continue earning status under the VIFP program until the new scheme launches. Membership tiers will be honored for two years beyond June 1, 2026, except for Diamond members, whose benefits will extend for 6 years. At launch, balances of existing “FunPoints” from the co-branded credit card will be converted into Carnival Rewards points.

Overall, the shift to Carnival Rewards signifies a departure from the traditional night-based system toward a more flexible and spend-based model. This evolution aligns the brand with broader trends in loyalty programs and offers guests greater customization and accelerated pathways to beloved cruise perks.
