Portsmouth International Port is poised to welcome the full Virgin Voyages fleet this summer, as Scarlet Lady returns on July 27 and sister ship Brilliant Lady follows soon after on August 22. This milestone crowns Portsmouth as the first—and only—port globally to host all ships from the adult-only cruise line, ushering in a season of economic uplift to the region.

Each cruise arrival in Portsmouth delivers considerable economic value—up to GBP 1.5 million in combined direct port fees, local supply-chain activity, and spending by passengers and crew. As a council-owned facility, the port is projected to generate around GBP 10.3 million in profit this year, funding essential municipal services and local investments.

The partnership began in 2021 with the debut of Scarlet Lady in Portsmouth. Since that first voyage, more than 72,000 Virgin Voyages sailors have embarked or disembarked there, propelling record cruise growth for the port.

Resilient Lady’s inaugural UK season and multiple return calls have further established Portsmouth’s reputation as a premier home port.

Councillor Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, has acknowledged the substantial benefits—from enhanced trade opportunities with local businesses to heightened national visibility. He expressed pride that Portsmouth was selected by Virgin as a long-term home.

Port Director Mike Sellers highlighted the exceptional relationship forged with Virgin Voyages, noting this season is expected to be the busiest to date, with over 90 ship calls anticipated—an expansion that introduces a fresh customer demographic to the city.

Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu reflected that Portsmouth had become a vital part of Virgin’s journey. He emphasized that introducing Scarlet Lady and subsequently hosting Brilliant Lady represent key moments in the brand’s evolution. He commended Portsmouth’s shared maritime values and ongoing support as integral to their global growth.

During this season, voyages ranging from 6 to 13 nights will depart from Portsmouth, reaching diverse destinations from Reykjavik and Morocco to themed celebrations and comedy voyages.
