Scarlet Lady Review

Review of Scarlet Lady

The 2020-built/2021-inaugurated MS Scarlet Lady cruise ship is the first vessel in the Virgin Voyages fleet. The ship's name was announced on July 20, 2018. Scarlet Lady's three sisterships (of the same design) are Valiant Lady (May 2022), Resilient Lady (May 2023), and Brilliant Lady (March 2024).

All Virgin cruise ships were constructed at Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa Italy.

These liners are known as "Lady Ships" - a play on the term "your ladyship," reflecting Virgin Group's British heritage. Several renowned designers were chosen to create a new cruise ship style and an "adult cruising" vacation concept. For the ship's interior design, Virgin Voyages contracted the marine architecture and design firms Roman and Williams (NYC), Concrete Amsterdam, Tom Dixon's Design Research Studio (London UK), Gem Srl (Italy), Softroom (London UK), WORKac (NYC), Knibb Design, HL Studio (UK), HKS Architects (Dallas USA), and PearsonLloyd (London UK).

MS Scarlet Lady cruise ship (Virgin Voyages)

Virgin Voyages (formerly Virgin Cruises) is a new cruise line company headquartered in Plantation, Florida (USA). Virgin Voyages was established in December 2014 as a joint venture between Virgin Group Ltd (a UK-based multinational holding company, 49% stake) and Bain Capital LP (a USA-based multi-asset investment company, 51% stake). Virgin is an adults-only cruise company (minimum passenger age is 18) and officially began operations in April 2020.

The vessel (IMO number 311000807) is currently Bahamas-flagged (MMSI 311000807) and registered in Nassau.

Scarlet Lady is owned by VC SHIP ONE LTD and managed/chartered by VIRGIN VOYAGES LTD.

Decks and Cabins

MS Scarlet Lady staterooms (a total of 1408 passenger cabins for 2770 guests / max capacity 2860) include 78 Suites, 1030 Balcony cabins, 95 Oceanview cabins, and 105 Interior cabins. The staff and crew (1160 total) are accommodated in 813 crew cabins.

The ship has 17 decks, of which 13 are passenger-accessible and 9 contain cabins.

In mid-January 2019, Virgin Voyages announced details of the RockStar Suite cabins. The staterooms were designed by Tom Dixon Design Research Studio (an interior, product, and design consultancy). All staterooms are "smart," with mood lighting and sensors automatically adjusting the lighting according to passenger movement. The cruise ship has a total of 78 cabins in the "RockStar Suite" category, including 15 "Mega RockStar Suites" (9 Gorgeous, 2 Posh, 2 Fab, 2 Massive). Most are located on Deck 15, while Deck 16 houses one "RockStar Suite Sailor" (bow-facing Owner Suite).

The decor follows a music (rock-and-roll) theme with a retro-futuristic design and a color palette of deep blues with iridescent dichroic elements in the bathroom. The Massive Suite features a separate bedroom that doubles as a music room (equipped with electric guitars and an amplifier). The cabin's bow-facing terrace includes a Jacuzzi, dining area (six-seat table with built-in stairs), lounge area (circular sofa with low table), padded sun loungers, two hammocks, outdoor shower, catamaran net (partially covering the terrace), and live plants. Continuing the music theme, each of the 78 suites features a record player.

All RockStar Suite categories (SB-Brilliant, SG-Gorgeous, SP-Posh, SF-Fab, SM-Massive) feature marble-clad bathrooms (with hot tubs, premium-brand bath products, rain shower heads, and multicolored dichroic glass doors and windows / Peek-a-Boo shower), Terrazzo flooring, Tom Dixon furniture, large mirrored vanity tables, modern L-shaped sofabeds (for two), low tables, cabinets, a three-door wardrobe, large 55-inch smart TV, vinyl turntable (gold-plated player with a collection of records), complimentary full bar (with nautically themed barware kit), brass and leather finishes, and a chaise lounge chair (bedroom).

RockStar Suite passengers enjoy exclusive access to "Richard's Rooftop" (VIP club lounge located forward on Deck 16). RockStar Suites include perks (price-inclusive amenities and complimentary services) such as airport-to-ship transfers (via private drivers), priority helicopter arrangements, luggage assistance, private walk-down service (express VIP pathway) at Virgin Voyages Miami Cruise Terminal upon arrival, anytime boarding, early access to special shipboard events, complimentary laundry service, clothing pressing, nightly swimsuit drying, RockStar Agents (dedicated butlers per stateroom), dedicated hair and makeup crew (upon request), complimentary Thermal Suite access (Redemption Spa), all-inclusive premium drinks (in all shipboard eateries and bars), a personalized bottomless in-room bar (free of charge), and the option to curate in-port activities.

All Virgin cruise ship staterooms feature standard amenities including a European king-size bed (premium linens and plush bedding), wall-mounted reading lamps, bedside tables, mirrored vanity table/writing desk with stool, large wardrobe, electronic safe (in the closet), 4K Ultra HD smart TV (with infotainment system), and a large balcony furnished with padded loungers, a low table, a two-seat sofa, a Yellow Leaf hammock, and a dining table (custom-designed champagne table fitted with an ice bucket). Balcony access is via floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.

Every cabin is equipped with a custom-designed "Seabed" and mood lighting familiar to customers of Virgin America (part of Alaska Airlines). Cabin lighting automatically adjusts according to passenger movement. There are also staterooms designed for groups (with four bunk beds) and single cabins for solo travelers. Staterooms are divided into 21 categories. Balcony cabins feature a "sea terrace" (private step-out veranda) and are serviced by "Rockstar Coordinators" (personal assistants), while "personal wardrobe teams" provide luggage packing and unpacking services.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Dining on Virgin Voyages ships is included in the cruise fare, with no extra charges applied to any of the 20-plus onboard dining options. The cruise company rejects the traditional practice of paying additional fees for specialty restaurants. All eateries on Scarlet Lady offer complimentary, made-to-order cuisine.

Virgin Voyages cruise ship (top deck)

As part of the company's sustainable travel policy, Virgin Voyages has banned single-use plastics and does not operate buffet restaurants. All onboard food is prepared to order to reduce waste and lower energy consumption and emissions. Savings are reinvested into fresh, locally sourced ingredients, high-quality products, highly trained staff, and environmentally responsible technologies.

Virgin does not follow traditional cruise dining concepts. The ships have no main dining room, buffet restaurant, formal dress code, or assigned dining times and seating. Instead, these concepts have been replaced with boutique hotel-style eateries offering more than 20 dining options, all included in the cruise fare.

Follows the complete list of Scarlet Lady restaurants and food venues.

  • The Galley (main venue for casual dining and quick meals) is modeled after modern food halls. Guests can sample dishes from various onboard restaurants through eight shops and carts, including a panini shop, bakery and pastry shop, taco shack, noodle bar, burger grill, sushi bar with bento boxes, soup and salad station, and a 24-hour American diner.
  • The Test Kitchen (a laboratory-style eatery with metallic furniture, beakers, and test tubes) offers avant-garde cuisine. It operates as both a restaurant and a cooking school. Chef-driven menus are presented as ingredient lists, allowing guests to discover how flavors are combined throughout each course.
  • Wake (sized 5866 ft2 / 545 m2) is a steakhouse and seafood restaurant located aft, offering views of the ship's wake. It serves a theatrical interpretation of cuisine inspired by The Grill (New York) and The Wolseley (London).
  • Geonbae (Korean barbecue restaurant) is hosted by the "loudest servers at sea." Meals begin with complimentary soju for the table, with guests encouraged to participate in Korean drinking games.
  • Pink Agave (Mexican restaurant) offers a shared-plate dining experience accompanied by DJ music until late evening. The venue features porthole windows, metallic lighting fixtures, large tables, an elongated curved seating area with intimate two-seat tables, a separate bar in the Lobby, and a private dining room for parties and special events.
  • Extra Virgin (trattoria-style restaurant) serves traditional Italian specialties, including freshly made pasta.
  • The Dock (220 ft2 / 20.4 m2 beach club-inspired restaurant) offers Mediterranean cuisine including small plates, dips, mezze, and salads. The Dock features wooden deck chairs, daybeds, and loungers.
  • The Pizza Place (beach club-inspired restaurant) serves complimentary oven-baked gourmet pizza by the slice.
  • Sun Club Cafe – outdoor eatery.
  • The Sip is the ship's wine bar lounge (Virgin's champagne house), where along with a selection of premium wines guests can enjoy traditional British afternoon tea service.

Razzle Dazzle is the ship's vegan-vegetarian restaurant. Part of the venue is the Red Bar, a juice bar offering freshly squeezed juices and tonics, as well as craft cocktails from a menu that changes nightly. Twice per cruise, Razzle Dazzle hosts Drag Brunch featuring live performances by drag entertainers. The restaurant's design and name are inspired by the "razzle-dazzle" camouflage patterns used on naval vessels during both World Wars.

In November 2024, Scarlet Lady debuted the Chinese restaurant "Lucky Lotus by Razzle Dazzle". In 2025, the Gunbae (Korean BBQ venue) was introduced, serving traditional dishes such as Kimbap (seaweed rice rolls), Bulgogi (marinated grilled beef, pork, or chicken), Bo-ssam (roasted pork shoulder), and Korean beverages.

Virgin cruise ship passengers ("Sailors") are offered complimentary filtered and sparkling water at all onboard bars and dining venues. Complimentary water stations are also located throughout the ship.

Via the Sailor App, shaking a smartphone activates a secret "Champagne button" allowing Sailors to order Moet-Chandon Champagne (Brut Imperial, 750 ml bottle) delivered in an ice bucket with two glasses. The service is called "Shake for Champagne" and is available anywhere onboard.

Shipboard entertainment options - Fun and Sport

Each Virgin ship features 93% oceanview cabins and 86% balcony staterooms (called "sea terraces"), along with a casino and several live entertainment venues similar to traditional theater lounges.

Ship's signature venues include:

  • Athletic Club (training center) is an outdoor gym area with a boxing ring and gym equipment located aft on the top deck. The Sports Deck also includes the raised jogging track (Runway track, red-and-white colored), sundeck lounge with double daybeds and semi-circular loungers, a triple-netting area (220 ft2 / 20.4 m2 overlooking the decks below), 10 private cabanas (cushioned bed, low table, and two lounge chairs), beverage service from the outdoor Sports Bar, foosball tables, swimming pool, and showers. The Athletic Club was designed by Concrete Amsterdam and inspired by New York City's sports clubs of the 1920s.
  • Sun Club – Sun Worship Sanctuary.
  • MyBeast is an outdoor playground and poolside gym area.
  • The Crow's Nest (aft sundeck) offers 360-degree views and is furnished with loungers and mats in Virgin's signature red color. Sunrise and sunset outdoor yoga classes are held here.
  • The B Complex is an indoor fitness center equipped with Technogym ARTIS equipment, floor-to-ceiling windows, and separate studios for cycling, yoga, cardio, and spinning classes.
  • Gym and Tonic Bar serves cold-pressed fresh juices.
  • Aquatic Club Sundeck – Poolside Oasis and Aquatic Club Bar.
  • Two swimming pools, including the Well-being Pool (the ship's main pool surrounded by an adult playground and fitness apparatus known as MyBeast).
  • The Manor is the ship's two-deck-high disco nightclub with a large dance floor. Designed by the NYC-based studio Roman and Williams, the venue hosts entertainment, dancing, and live music. The Manor was inspired by Richard Branson's first Virgin music studio of the same name and features platforms, corners, and design details that encourage both socializing and performances.
  • The Dock is an outdoor lounge located aft on Deck 7 with cushioned wooden furniture including loungers, deckchairs, and daybeds.
  • Richard's Rooftop is a top-deck VIP area (reserved for Suite passengers) furnished with daybeds, deckchairs, circular loungers, large umbrellas, and colored crystal accents. Named after Virgin founder Richard Branson, the space has a futuristic atmosphere enhanced by giant umbrellas and rainbow-reflecting crystal elements.
  • "Ministry of Ground" and "Ministry of Ground Too" are specialty coffee bars serving Intelligentsia coffee (Virgin Voyages Blend) and made-to-order beverages prepared by expert baristas. Ministry of Ground (designed by Softroom of London) is located midship on Deck 7 within The Galley food market and features large round porthole-style windows with window seating, purple and aquamarine seating tones, comfortable loungers, and modern tables. Alongside handcrafted Intelligentsia coffee, guests receive complimentary cakes and light snacks. Retail items such as bags of Intelligentsia coffee, JoJo loose-leaf teas, kettles, coffee cups, and other items are available for purchase.
  • Redemption is the ship's spa complex (Deck 5) featuring Reception, Mud Room, Salt Room, Hydrotherapy Pool, cold plunge pool, Jacuzzi, Thermal Suite (with plunge pool, heated quartz beds, sauna, and salt room), treatment rooms with quartz-mattress beds, Dry Dock Salon (hairdressing), Stubble and Groom (barbershop), Blow Dry Bar, Male Pedicure Spa, and Mani-Pedi Spa. At night, the wellness complex transforms into a lounge with live DJ music.
  • The Scene Event Space.
  • Squid Ink is a tattoo studio created in partnership with World Famous Tattoo Ink. The facility is operated by two full-time tattoo artists (selected by Lou Rubino Jr) along with visiting celebrity artists. Tattoos are created using original vegan ink. Additional services include body piercings and permanent makeup using certified vegan Perma Blend pigments.
  • The Red Room, designed by theatre consultants Auerbach Pollock Friedlander and architects WorkAC, is the first transformational multi-form theater at sea. The venue can be configured in four layouts: an alley stage for fashion shows, a traditional proscenium stage, a flat-floor dance setup, and a reverse stage configuration. Scarlet Lady presents six original shows produced by Randy Weiner (The Donkey Show, Queen of the Night, Sleep No More).
  • The Groupie (privately bookable karaoke room) also functions as a cinema and VIP casino gaming lounge.
  • The Den Flex Event Space.
  • DJs performing on Scarlet Lady (both onboard and at the Bimini destination) include Mark Ronson, NYC-based band Sofi Tukker, and DJ MK (Marc Kinchen).
  • Voyage Vinyl (record store) features listening stations, record collections, and a DJ booth for live performances by resident and guest DJs.
  • "JLo Beauty" is an onboard retail shop selling skincare products from Jennifer Lopez's brand "JLo Beauty & Lifestyle".
  • Draught Haus (Deck 7, adjacent to Voyage Vinyl) is the ship's taproom serving craft beers.

Draught Haus offers eight draft beers, as well as boilermakers (beer cocktails), bottled craft beers, shots, and shot-based cocktails. The bar also offers growler/jug service, allowing passengers to take drinks throughout the ship (public spaces and cabins). The beerhouse features themed furniture, rustic decor, and a large beer tap display behind the bar.

Onboard MS Scarlet Lady, Virgin's own craft beer (English Pale Ale) is served. The beer was created by Wynwood Brewing Company (Miami) using English yeast and American malts and hops.

In April 2023, Virgin Voyages signed a partnership with WPT (World Poker Tour, founded in 2002), an internationally televised gaming and entertainment brand. The premium poker experience is offered on Scarlet Lady during all 4-5-night Caribbean itineraries. The WPT at Sea Poker Room features eight poker tables staffed by professional dealers and hosts beginner training sessions, cash games, and WPT Prize Package tournaments with buy-ins ranging from US$80 to US$320. The US$320 buy-in tournament is held once per cruise, with the US$5000 prize usable on any future Virgin voyage or WPT tournament.

Virgin cruise deals

Virgin Voyages operates a "No Tipping" policy, meaning all gratuities are included in the base cruise fare. Basic fares also include beverages, all dining venues, and group fitness classes. The company does not charge change fees or penalties. Guests can hold stateroom reservations for 24 hours with no payment required once a 20% non-refundable deposit is placed. A 7-day grace period allows bookings to be changed for any reason. Cruise departure dates and passenger names can be modified without additional fees.

Shortly before opening Scarlet Lady bookings (February 14, 2019), Virgin announced an all-inclusive pricing policy where cruises are sold by cabin price. Fares include dining across more than 20 venues (some open 24 hours), unlimited WiFi, and all fitness classes. Cabin prices vary only by the number of occupants. For 5-day itineraries, fares start from approximately USD 250 per person per day (excluding taxes and fees).

Itineraries

In early April 2021, Virgin announced that after multiple delays, Scarlet Lady would debut on August 6, 2021 (Inaugural Cruise date) with a mini-season in the UK. The "Summer Soiree" sailings (3-4-day cruises to nowhere roundtrips from homeport Portsmouth England) opened for booking on April 13, 2021 (available to UK residents only).

Scarlet Lady's inaugural Caribbean season (2021) is based on 4-5-day roundtrips from homeport Miami (Florida USA). During the originally planned 2020 maiden season, the ship was also scheduled to visit Cuba. Virgin's decision was influenced by research conducted among customers and travel agencies in the UK and North America. All Cuba itineraries were planned to include an overnight stay in Havana, allowing passengers ("Sailors") to explore the city's nightlife.

  • 5-day "Mayan Sol" itinerary visiting Havana (overnight) and Costa Maya (Mexico), where shore excursions include scuba diving on coral reefs and tours to Mayan ruins.
  • 5-day "Dominican Daze" itinerary visiting Havana (overnight) and Puerto Plata (Dominicana) or the Bahamas (Bimini Islands). In the Dominican Republic, shore excursions include trekking, surfing, and shopping.
  • 4-day "Havana After Dark" itinerary visiting Havana (overnight) and Bimini Islands.

The liner is also seasonally deployed in Europe via Transatlantic crossings, with calls at several major Mediterranean and UK ports, including Dover and Liverpool.

Virgin cruise bookings for Scarlet Lady opened on February 5, 2019 (for customers with pre-sale deposits) and on February 14 for the general public. Following the June 5, 2019 US Government restrictions on travel from the USA to Cuba, Virgin Voyages revised all scheduled itineraries to exclude Havana. The revised itineraries feature late-night departures from certain ports, sometimes as late as midnight.

  • 5-night "Riviera Maya" itinerary visiting Playa Del Carmen (across from Cozumel Island), with opportunities to explore archaeological and ecological sites or visit nearby Tulum (a walled Mayan city).
  • 4-night "Fire and Sunset Soirees" short-break itineraries visiting Key West Florida (sunset departure) and Bimini Bahamas (with a late-night beach bonfire party and midnight departure).
  • 7-night itineraries (planned for the Christmas 2020 holidays but canceled) included themed cruises such as "Holidaze and Nights" and "New Year's Ahoy", visiting Puerto Plata (Dominicana), Bimini Bahamas, and San Juan Puerto Rico.

All Virgin Scarlet Lady cruises include a visit to Bimini Bahamas as a private island destination.

MS Scarlet Lady's Maiden Voyage from the USA is currently scheduled for September 22, 2021 (4-day "Fire Sunset Soirees" itinerary).

Scarlet Lady Wiki

Scarlet Lady's construction (Fincantieri shipyard / hull number 6287) began with the steel-cutting ceremony held on March 22, 2017. The vessel's keel-laying ceremony took place on October 31, 2017, attended by Giovanni Toti (Liguria's President), Marco Bucci (Mayor of Genoa), Richard Branson (Virgin Group founder), Tom McAlpin (Virgin Voyages President and CEO), and Alberto Maestrini (Fincantieri General Manager). Boy George (UK singer, songwriter, and fashion designer) performed as the superstar DJ. During the ceremony, the ship's design and hull art were also revealed.

On July 20, 2018, the drydock was flooded, during which two drydock-assembled hull sections were floated out and connected. On the same day (also at the Sestri Ponente Shipyard near Genoa), the steel-cutting ceremony was held for the second Virgin cruise liner (Valiant Lady).

The vessel's launch (float-out from drydock) took place on February 8, 2019. The ceremony was attended by Tom McAlpin (Virgin Voyages President and CEO), Luigi Matarazzo (Director of Fincantieri's Merchant Ships Division), and Paolo Capobianco (Director of the Sestri Ponente Shipyard). The ceremony's godmother was Giuliana Rindone (a shipyard employee). The ship successfully completed Mediterranean sea trials between November 22-30, navigating between Genoa and Marseille and back. On November 27, the 69-year-old Richard Branson, together with his family (wife Joan and children Holly and Sam), boarded the vessel in Marseille.

The Bahamas-flagged vessel Scarlet Lady (MMSI 311000807, registered in Nassau) was officially delivered to Virgin Voyages on February 14, 2020. The delivery ceremony was attended by Tom McAlpin (Virgin's President and CEO), Giampiero Massolo (Fincantieri President and Chairman), Giuseppe Bono (Fincantieri CEO), and Marco Bucci (Mayor of Genoa).

The ship's first Master/Captain was Wendy Williams. Her appointment was announced in June 2019 by Sir Richard Branson. Captain Wendy Williams (from Sept-Iles, Quebec) became the first Canadian woman appointed Master of a major cruise line vessel. As of 2019, she had more than 28 years of maritime service, including experience on commercial fishing vessels, ferryboats, and large cruise liners (15+ years). Through the Scarlet Squad (recruitment and training program), Virgin Voyages hired Captain Williams along with more than 12 other female officers for Scarlet Lady, including positions such as Hotel Director (Jill Anderson), Safety Officer (Christin Wenge), Environmental Officer (Lindsay Kerber), as well as engineers and second and third officers.

Scarlet Lady refurbishment 2024 review

The ship's most recent drydock refurbishment (November 14-28, 2024) was conducted at Fincantieri's Cantiere Navale di Palermo shipyard (Sicily, Italy). The project included major upgrades and enhancements, such as new suites, refreshed dining venues, and expanded bar and lounge areas.

To increase capacity, several Sea Terrace cabins on Deck 11 were converted into 24 Seriously Suite staterooms. The 350 ft2 accommodations feature European king-size beds, Peek-a-Boo showers, in-room record players with vinyl records, fully stocked bars, and Virgin Voyages’ iconic Yellow Leaf hammocks on the balconies.

Additionally, the Razzle Dazzle restaurant introduced the new dinner concept "Lucky Lotus by Razzle Dazzle", offering a Chinese-inspired menu and craft cocktails in a more intimate setting.

The Galley’s coffee bar/food hall Ground Club Too was transformed into a full-service nightclub and bar lounge, offering elevated cocktails and Intelligentsia coffee.

The Wake (steakhouse and seafood restaurant) added a raw bar to highlight its premium wine selection.

On Deck 16, six VIP cabanas (with luxury daybeds overlooking the Aquatic Club) were added and are available for private bookings or group celebrations.

The Casino was upgraded with additional slot machines.

A Couples Treatment Room was added to the wellness complex/Redemption Spa, while the existing Thermal Suite remained unchanged.

Scarlet Lady refurbishment 2022 review

During the vessel's first drydocking (January-February 2022), all staterooms were updated while the ship remained operational (deployed in the Caribbean) and carrying passengers. Noise-generating works were conducted during port stays in PortMiami (between voyages).

The refurbishment project refreshed the cabin interiors by adding authentic artworks, new-theme linens and decorative pillows (with nautical stripes), vertical wooden beams decorating the wall facing the bed, and additional wooden furniture to increase drawer space and overall storage capacity.

Virgin ship technology

Virgin cruise ships have a passenger capacity of approximately 2750 (plus 1150 crew) and a gross tonnage of 110,000 GT. They are equipped with the ABB Azipod XO propulsion system (electric drive motors with off-hull submerged azimuth thrusters / 360-degree rotating propellers). These units provide excellent maneuverability, allowing in-port navigation without tug assistance while minimizing vibrations and noise. By placing the propulsion units outside the hull, the Azipod system frees up internal space for additional lower-deck staterooms. ABB Ability technology operates through a network that transfers real-time data to remote monitoring centers, enabling propulsion system analysis and remote technical support.

These vessels stand out with innovative design concepts and the latest marine technologies for energy recovery and environmental impact reduction. The ship's clean energy system is provided by the Swedish company Climeon Ocean. This technology reduces CO2 emissions by converting waste heat generated by diesel engines into electricity (approximately 1 MW capacity) for onboard use. Each Virgin liner is equipped with six such units, saving approximately 5400 tons of CO2 annually. The ship's waste processing system is provided by Scanship.

Wartsila (Finnish marine technology corporation and former shipbuilder) was contracted to supply the ships' powerplants. Each vessel is powered by two 8-cylinder and two 12-cylinder "Wartsila 46F" marine diesel engines. Wartsila's Hybrid Scrubber System operates in both open and closed-loop modes and uses seawater to remove SOx from the vessel's exhaust while also significantly reducing NOx emissions. The Wartsila navigation and automation control systems are from the company's latest NACOS Platinum series.

Alternative power is provided by four-stroke engines driving the four electricity generator sets, each equipped with TPL-C turbochargers (by ABB).

Virgin Scarlet Lady cruise ship lifeboat

In February 2020, Virgin announced "The Band" - smart wearable technology introduced on Scarlet Lady (April 1). The device is made from recycled marine plastic (a sustainability initiative) and developed in partnership with The Bionic Company. The lightweight RFID wristband is mailed to all passengers and is complimentary (a keepsake). The Band is activated upon boarding and is used for onboard purchases and payments (beverages, casino gaming), booking tours, cabin access (room key), room service ordering (identifying the guest's location), and as a VIP pass for Richard's Rooftop.

In early April 2021 it was announced that, following multiple delays, Scarlet Lady's Maiden Voyage (August 6, 2021) would start with a mini-season in the UK. The "Summer Soirees" (3-4-day cruises to nowhere roundtrips from Portsmouth England) were opened for booking (available to UK residents only) on April 13, 2021.

The mini UK season ended on September 3, when the liner departed Portsmouth Harbour for a Transatlantic crossing to the USA (NYC New York). The Caribbean Maiden Voyage departed on October 6. The 4-day "Fire Sunset Soirees" itinerary was themed "MerMaiden Voyage". Prices started at USD 1700 (EUR 1430 / GBP 1230) per person based on double occupancy.

Virgin Cruises' private island resort "Bimini Beach Club" (Bahamas)

The liner Scarlet Lady is the first cruise ship to call at "Bimini Beach Club" (Virgin Group's private island resort in Bimini Bahamas). This exclusive destination allows Virgin's Sailors to enjoy world-class entertainment from a rotating lineup of DJs led by Mark Ronson.

Virgin's Bimini Beach Club offers premium food prepared with locally sourced ingredients and traditional Bahamian favorites such as banana leaf-wrapped queen snapper, conch and mango salad, and Bahamian rum cake. The complex features six bars, outdoor lounge areas with hammock groves, beach loungers, watersports activities, and optional (extra cost) private poolside and beachside cabanas for rent.

RockStar Suite passengers benefit from complimentary food service, an exclusive bar and outdoor terrace lounge, and VIP beach cabanas. The 7-mile (11-km) long island offers activities such as boating, snorkeling, and wreck diving. The partially sunken wreck of SS Sapona (a concrete-hulled steamship that ran aground in 1926) is located just a few miles off the island's southern coast.

Virgin's private resort is located on North Bimini Island and is a short bus transfer from the docking pier. It was developed through a partnership with Resorts World Bimini, a 750-acre (3 km2 / 1.2 mi2) beachfront resort-casino-marina-hotel complex operated by Genting Group (a Malaysia-based multinational corporation). North Bimini is approximately 68 km (42 mi) east of Miami. The resort's estimated construction cost is USD 220 million.

Virgin's Bimini Beach Club overlooks the sea and features a large lagoon-style swimming pool. The resort experience also includes morning open-air activities (yoga and meditation), afternoon DJ poolside parties, and nighttime beach bonfires with live musical performances.
