Ponant Explorations Group will introduce winter voyages aboard Le Jacques Cartier in French Polynesia for the 2026–2027 season, complementing the longstanding operation of the Paul Gauguin in the region.
The Explorer-class vessel will offer two new 14-night itineraries departing roundtrip from Papeete, along with additional voyages to the Marquesas, operating from October 2026 through February 2027.
These journeys will transport guests beyond well-trodden routes, venturing into the remote Gambier and Austral Islands, areas seldom visited by cruise ships.
Alongside the familiar Society Islands, Tuamotus, and Marquesas, the itineraries will thus offer a richer exploration of French Polynesia’s diverse archipelago—territories accessible only via expedition-class (smaller) vessels.
Samuel Chamberlain, CEO of the Americas for Ponant Explorations Group, explained that the deployment of Le Jacques Cartier represents "a new perspective—more remote and more expeditionary" beside The Gauguin's immersive, year-round presence. He added that this expansion enhances the brand’s leadership in the region, reinforcing its reputation for authenticity, elegance, and adventure.
The first itinerary, "Secret Polynesia: Society to Austral Islands", will set sail on October 18 and December 13, 2026, threading its way through the Tuamotus, Gambier, and Austral Islands.
The second, titled "From French Polynesia to Pitcairn Island", is scheduled for November 15, 2026, and will journey through the Tuamotus and Gambier en route to legendary Pitcairn.
With these debut voyages, Le Jacques Cartier will sail alongside Paul Gauguin from October through early 2027, delivering an elevated expedition format that broadens Ponant’s Polynesian offerings and invites travelers to uncover its hidden depths.
