A crew member aboard MSC Magnifica was medically evacuated on the evening of Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, following what the ship’s medical team assessed as the probable onset of a heart attack, while the vessel was navigating off the coast of San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily.
The emergency call was placed at approximately 07:00 PM local time (~17:00 UTC), when the Port Authority of Trapani was alerted and assistance was requested. Coordination was undertaken by MRSC Palermo, with support from the Italian Coast Guard, CIRM (Centro Internazionale Radio Medico), and personnel from the 118 emergency medical service.
Despite adverse weather conditions, Coast Guard units deployed the patrol boat SAR CP 330, which sheltered in appropriate seas to safely come alongside MSC Magnifica. About 09:15 p.m., the crew member was transferred from the cruise ship to the patrol boat and then conveyed ashore at the Port of Trapani. An ambulance awaited at port to continue medical treatment.
Authorities have not disclosed identifying information, nationality, or the individual’s role onboard. No subsequent status update has been released regarding the person’s condition following the delivery to shore.
