During the 133-day world cruise aboard AIDAdiva, operated by AIDA Cruises, more than one hundred people fell ill after a norovirus outbreak. According to the report by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 95 of the 2,007 passengers (about 4.8%) and 6 of the 640 crew members (about 0.9%) experienced symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.
The voyage had embarked from Hamburg, Germany, on November 10th, 2025, bound on a global itinerary that included stops in Europe, the United States, Latin America and beyond. The outbreak was first reported on 30 November. Upon notification, the ship’s operators implemented enhanced disinfection and sanitation protocols, isolated affected individuals and collected stool samples for laboratory testing in coordination with the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program.
Health authorities note that 2025 has seen a rise in gastrointestinal illness outbreaks on cruise ships; in the majority of cases norovirus has been identified as the agent.
