Stena Line has completed a significant programme of refurbishment and modernisation on its ferries Stena Germanica and Stena Scandinavica, which operate overnight services between Gothenburg, Sweden, and Kiel, Germany. Both vessels have recently returned from shipyard periods during which millions of kronor were allocated to upgrading passenger facilities ahead of the 2026 peak travel season.
The scope of the recent work focused on enhancements to key public areas frequently used by passengers during the 14‑hour crossing. Restaurant and bar spaces on board both ferries were reconfigured and refreshed with new finishes to align with contemporary expectations for dining and social spaces at sea. Outdoor deck facilities, including the Sun Deck bar areas, were also refurbished to provide improved access and amenity for passengers during fair weather operations.
These alterations build on prior investment in passenger accommodation; most cabins underwent modernisation throughout 2025, with interior fixtures and layouts updated to enhance comfort on overnight voyages. The latest upgrades aimed to ensure that the ships’ public and exterior spaces match the standards of the living quarters and service levels already in place, preparing the vessels for anticipated demand in 2026.
The route served by these vessels remains an integral link in Stena Line’s Northern European network, carrying both passengers and vehicles between Sweden and Germany on a regular schedule. The improvements to onboard facilities reflect broader trends in ferry operations toward continual enhancement of vessel interiors and amenities to support both leisure travel and regional connectivity in European waters.
