Oman’s ports have seen a notable increase in cruise and yacht-borne visitors, with 137 330 tourists arriving aboard such vessels in 2025, according to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. This figure reflects a concerted effort by national authorities to develop the country’s cruise sector and enhance its appeal as a maritime destination within the Arabian Peninsula and the wider region. The ministry has aimed to facilitate the reception of international liners and attract travellers from key markets to drive further growth in cruise tourism.

The Sultanate’s strategic geographical position and its investments in modern port infrastructure have increased its attractiveness to both operators and passengers. The repeated calls by substantial ships such as Vasco da Gama at the Port of Salalah, scheduled again in March 2026, demonstrate this trend, offering visitors access to Dhofar’s landscapes, beaches and heritage areas. At the northern end of the country, the Port of Khasab has drawn international calls by vessels including Celestial on multiple occasions, taking advantage of the port’s accessibility near the Strait of Hormuz and its natural fjord-like surroundings.

In addition to these regular visits, the cruise liner Arua completed its maiden voyage to Omani waters and is set to make further calls to Khasab and Sultan Qaboos Port through the 2025-2026 season, expanding the range of cruise deployments that bring passengers ashore to explore both urban and remote environments within Oman.

Port activity in Musandam, particularly at Khasab, has also reflected broader winter cruise trends, with tens of thousands of passengers arriving during the 2025-2026 season, supporting the development of local tourism infrastructure and recreational offerings.

The increase in maritime visitors contributes to economic activity in port cities such as Salalah, Khasab and Muscat, encompassing hospitality, transport and retail sectors, and bolsters Oman’s position in regional cruise networks. Continued enhancements to port facilities and collaboration among transport and tourism stakeholders form part of strategic plans to sustain and expand the nation’s role as a cruising hub.
