Access to the Port of Maceió (Brazil) was significantly disrupted on Wednesday morning after dockworkers launched a protest that obstructed one of the principal routes leading to the port area.

The demonstration took place on Avenida Cícero Toledo in the Jaraguá district, where workers erected barricades and displayed banners indicating that they had entered a strike. The action caused heavy congestion for trucks and other vehicles attempting to reach the port facilities.

Reports from the area indicated that by approximately 7:30 a.m. two of the road’s three lanes had been blocked, resulting in long lines of traffic extending toward nearby parking areas in Jaraguá.

The disruption occurred on a day when the cruise ship MSC Seaview was scheduled to call at the port at around 10 a.m. The arrival was expected to generate additional activity around the terminal as buses, taxis and tour operators prepared to handle passenger transfers and shore excursions.

According to the protesting workers, the strike was linked to demands concerning wage adjustments tied to the INPC inflation index and reductions in the cost of employee health plans. The demonstrators indicated that these issues would need to be addressed before the work stoppage could be resolved.

As of the morning of the protest, port authorities had not issued a formal statement regarding the situation or any potential operational impacts.
