2 passengers medevaced from Pacific World on Singapore–Taiwan cruise

Two passengers traveling aboard the cruise ship Pacific World, operated by the Japanese organization Peace Boat, were evacuated at sea on March 23rd after developing serious medical conditions during a voyage between Singapore and Taiwan. Vietnamese maritime authorities coordinated the operation, ensuring that both individuals were transferred ashore for urgent medical treatment.

The situation first came to the attention of rescue authorities when the vessel reported that an 84-year-old Japanese passenger had fallen critically ill. Medical staff on board identified severe pneumonia that had rapidly progressed to respiratory failure, requiring immediate intervention and mechanical ventilation.

Not long afterward, the ship advised that a second passenger—a 79-year-old Japanese woman—had begun experiencing significant breathing difficulties. With two passengers requiring advanced care beyond what could be fully provided on board, the vessel requested assistance from coastal rescue services.

The Vietnamese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre organized the response, dispatching the specialized rescue vessel SAR 272 from Ho Chi Minh City together with a team of medical personnel. The rescue ship proceeded to intercept Pacific World while the cruise vessel continued its passage in regional waters. By early afternoon the rescue team reached the passenger ship. Medical staff boarded the vessel, carried out emergency treatment, and then transferred both patients to the rescue craft for transport to shore. Throughout the return passage the medical team maintained continuous monitoring and resuscitation measures while proceeding toward port.

Later that day the rescue vessel arrived safely at the harbor facility of the regional rescue center, where the two passengers were handed over to local authorities and transported onward to hospitals for further treatment.
