NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line has officially christened its newest cruise ship, Norwegian Luna, during a ceremony held at PortMiami, marking the vessel’s formal entry into the company’s Caribbean fleet. The event took place on March 27th, 2026 following the ship’s arrival in the United States after a transatlantic voyage from Civitavecchia (Rome).
The ceremony followed established maritime tradition, including the ceremonial breaking of a champagne bottle against the vessel’s hull. The proceedings were attended by more than 2,000 invited guests and featured a performance by the ship’s godmother and hull artist, ELLE, whose artwork forms the distinctive exterior design of the vessel.
At approximately 322 metres in length and with capacity for around 3,565 passengers, Norwegian Luna is part of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Prima Plus class of ships. The vessel incorporates a range of onboard attractions designed to appeal to both families and adult travellers. Among the key features are the Aqua Slidecoaster, a hybrid roller-coaster and waterslide attraction, as well as outdoor recreation areas and large entertainment venues.
Entertainment and activity spaces on board include themed productions and live shows, together with various leisure facilities and open-air public areas designed to enhance the guest experience. The ship’s design reflects the cruise line’s continued emphasis on combining large-ship amenities with flexible holiday options for different passenger groups.
Following the christening, Norwegian Luna is scheduled to operate a series of Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries from Miami during its initial deployment. These voyages will include a mix of short sailings and week-long cruises calling at destinations such as Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas.
According to current deployment plans, the vessel will continue Caribbean operations through 2027 before transitioning to Bermuda itineraries departing from New York, expanding its presence in the North American cruise market.
The introduction of Norwegian Luna represents the latest addition to Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet development programme and reflects the company’s ongoing investment in larger vessels featuring expanded entertainment, recreational facilities and modern passenger amenities.
