RCI-Royal Caribbean has advanced the construction of Legend of the Seas to the sea trial phase, with the vessel departing the yard at Turku, Finland, for its first operations in open water ahead of its scheduled debut in July 2026. As the third unit in the Icon Class series, the ship’s initial sailing marks a transition from structural completion to systems validation.

Over a trial period of approximately ten days, a workforce of engineers and technical specialists is conducting a sequence of evaluations designed to assess propulsion, maneuverability, safety systems, and overall performance under operational conditions. The programme is expected to cover roughly 2,400 nautical miles before the vessel returns to the Meyer Turku facility for final outfitting and delivery preparations.

The vessel forms part of an ongoing class development intended to expand large-scale cruise design, incorporating multiple passenger zones, an extensive range of dining and entertainment facilities, and arrangements intended to accommodate varied passenger groups. Following completion and entry into service, Legend of the Seas is scheduled to operate an inaugural European season before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale for Caribbean itineraries.

Subsequent deployments are planned to include 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean voyages, with calls at destinations including Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas, reflecting the operator’s established regional programme.
