CCL-Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed that its fifth EXCEL-class vessel, Carnival Tropicale, will be based at Port Galveston (Texas) upon delivery in 2028.
The deployment builds on more than two decades of cooperation between CCL and the port, positioning Galveston as a principal hub within the company’s North American network. With the addition of Tropicale, the port will host two of the newest ships in the fleet alongside Carnival Jubilee, introduced in 2024.
Both vessels, each accommodating 6000+ passengers, are expected to form the core of a year-round roundtrips from Texas.
Company leadership indicated that Tropicale's assignment to Galveston represented both a continuation of historical ties and a forward-looking investment in the region, noting that Texas has played a central role in the company’s expansion and would remain integral to its future deployment strategy.
The naming of Carnival Tropicale draws on the legacy of MS Tropicale, the line’s first purpose-built cruise ship, which contributed to shaping CCL's “Fun Ship” travel concept and introduced design elements that have since become emblematic of the brand. The forthcoming vessel is intended to reinterpret that heritage through contemporary design and updated onboard features.
CCL currently maintains four ships homeported in Galveston, and its continued investment has contributed to the development of regional tourism flows, attracting passengers from across the southern United States and supporting associated economic activity in the Houston area.
Port authorities indicated that CCL's sustained presence had been a significant factor in the port’s growth trajectory, highlighting a longstanding partnership and expressing expectations for continued expansion. The port has recorded consistent increases in passenger volumes, including surpassing ten million cumulative guests in 2024, the same year in which Carnival Jubilee became the first newly built vessel to be inaugurated at the facility.
The LNG-powered vessel draws design elements from the sistership Carnival Festivale, scheduled for delivery in 2027. With Festivale, CCL introduces new dining venues, entertainment concepts, and a new recreational zone centred on an expanded waterpark facility.
Further details regarding itineraries and reservations are expected to be released at a later stage.
