AIDA Cruises is preparing to mark its 30th anniversary with a coordinated 3-ship parade on the River Elbe, transforming Hamburg's waterfront into the focal point of the celebrations. The event will bring together AIDAprima, AIDAperla and AIDAsol in a carefully planned formation through the heart of the port.
The highlight of the anniversary is scheduled for ~8 p.m., when the three vessels will assemble off the Landungsbrücken, positioned about 120 metres apart to create a striking maritime display. The parade will be accompanied by a choreographed performance by four harbour tugboats, adding a traditional element to the celebration.
Months of planning have preceded the event, with AIDA Cruises working alongside the Hamburg Port Authority and local harbour pilots to coordinate the complex manoeuvres. According to the organisers, the operation was rehearsed several times using advanced ship simulators to ensure the movements could be carried out safely within the busy port environment.
Each vessel will follow a separate arrival plan. AIDAprima will return directly from a cruise before executing a turning manoeuvre near the Elbphilharmonie and joining the formation. Meanwhile, AIDAperla and AIDAsol will depart their berths stern first towards the Landungsbrücken without tug assistance before taking up their assigned positions.
The anniversary commemorates three decades since AIDA Cruises introduced its first ship in 1996, establishing what has since become Germany's largest cruise brand. The company now operates a fleet of 11 cruise ships serving destinations worldwide.
Hamburg continues to play a central role in AIDA Cruises' operations, hosting around 120 ship calls each year and serving as the location of the company's nautical headquarters, where voyage planning and navigational support are provided for the fleet.
