Emerald Cruises has marked a key construction milestone for Emerald Lumi with the ceremonial launch of the vessel at its Romanian shipyard, where the ship entered the water for the first time. The event signals the transition to the final stages of construction ahead of the vessel's inaugural season on France's Seine River, scheduled to begin in 2027.

Designed exclusively for the Seine, Emerald Lumi measures 110 metres (360 feet) in length, enabling it to navigate into the heart of Paris and reach Honfleur. The vessel will accommodate up to 130 guests and feature spacious staterooms and suites, together with public spaces including the Reflections Restaurant, Horizon Bar & Lounge and a heated indoor pool that converts into a cinema in the evenings. A self-service laundry will also be introduced as a new feature within Emerald Cruises' Star-Ship design.

The cruise line stated that the vessel's launch represents an important step in introducing a new style of river cruising on the Seine. It noted that the combination of extended overnight stays, locally focused cultural and culinary experiences, and a selection of EmeraldACTIVE excursions is intended to provide a more immersive and unhurried way to explore northern France.

From March 2027, Emerald Lumi will operate the new 8-day Sensations of the Seine & Normandy itinerary, sailing roundtrip from Paris to Honfleur. The programme includes overnight stays and extended port calls in destinations such as Honfleur and La Roche-Guyon, allowing additional time ashore. Daily guided excursions will be complemented by EmeraldACTIVE options, including guided e-bike tours, hiking and kayaking, enabling guests to choose between traditional sightseeing and more active exploration.

The itinerary also places emphasis on the history and culture of Normandy. Included experiences feature a visit to Giverny inspired by the life and work of Claude Monet, as well as a full-day excursion to the Normandy D-Day landing beaches, memorials and museums. Through the EmeraldPLUS programme, guests will also be offered onboard lectures on the Second World War and visits to traditional Normandy cider farms, where regional ciders and local specialities will be presented.
