Wärtsilä has entered into an 8-year Lifecycle Agreement with Carnival Corporation covering 4 LNG-powered cruise ships, including two vessels currently under construction.
The contract represents the first long-term service agreement between the two companies for Carnival Corporation's LNG-fuelled cruise fleet. Wärtsilä recorded the order in the second quarter of 2026.
The agreement applies to vessels operating under the Princess Cruises and CCL- Carnival Cruise Line brands and covers lifecycle maintenance for the ships' dual-fuel engines and associated equipment.
Under the contract, Wärtsilä will provide planned and corrective maintenance, spare parts management, logistics support, major engine overhauls, remote monitoring, condition-based maintenance, technical audits, crew training and performance management through agreed key performance indicators.
The company stated that the agreement is intended to enhance vessel reliability, maximise asset availability and reduce overall operating costs by limiting unplanned maintenance and minimising operational downtime.
Carnival Corporation indicated that the long-term partnership supports its objectives of maintaining operational excellence and advancing sustainability while ensuring the continued performance and efficiency of the vessels covered by the agreement.
Wärtsilä noted that the contract builds on the long-standing relationship between the two companies and reflects a shared focus on improving cruise ship operations through proactive lifecycle support, digital monitoring and data-driven maintenance services.
The agreement also highlights the growing adoption of long-term, performance-based service arrangements across the cruise industry as operators seek to improve operational efficiency while supporting increasingly advanced propulsion systems and onboard technologies.
