Travelmarvel has marked the inaugural sailing of Travelmarvel Sirius, returning the Australian touring and river cruise brand to the Nile with a purpose-built vessel designed for its Egypt programme.
The ship’s maiden voyage began in Luxor after guests started their journey in Cairo, launching Travelmarvel’s new Nile cruise season. The return to Egypt represents an expansion of the company’s river cruise programme following its previous operations in the destination.
Designed specifically for the Nile and Travelmarvel guests, Travelmarvel Sirius combines contemporary accommodation with design elements influenced by Egypt’s history and culture. The ship carries 124 guests in 62 cabins and continues Travelmarvel’s practice of naming vessels after stars and constellations. Sirius is named after the brightest star in the night sky and has historical associations with ancient Egyptian astronomy.
The ship’s itineraries are accompanied by shore excursions led by Tour Directors qualified as Egyptologists. The maiden voyage included visits to major archaeological sites including Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Abu Simbel and Philae Temple. The programme also includes a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum.
On board, Travelmarvel Sirius features multiple dining venues, entertainment focused on Egyptian culture and a sun deck with a swimming pool. The relatively small passenger capacity is intended to provide a more personalized river cruise experience while maintaining the brand’s value-oriented positioning.
David Cox, CEO of The APT Travel Group, said the company was seeing renewed interest in Egypt and regarded the launch of a purpose-built vessel as an opportunity to combine immersive destination experiences with contemporary design and value. He added that the inaugural sailing reflected Travelmarvel’s focus on developing its Nile offering for the American market.
The maiden voyage was marked by a sail-away event attended by passengers and crew. Travelmarvel Sirius is now operating its Nile programme, with 2028 sailings available for booking.
