A 53-year-old Italian crew member was medically evacuated from Costa Deliziosa on October 31st after suffering a cardiac emergency shortly after the cruise ship departed Trieste. The vessel was ~5 nautical miles (~9 km) offshore when the incident prompted a rescue operation coordinated by the Trieste Coast Guard. Local reports identified the condition as cardiac ischaemia.

Following a request for assistance, the Coast Guard contacted the ship’s doctor to assess the crew member and coordinate the evacuation. The doctor approved the transfer and accompanied him aboard the rescue boat until he could be handed over to emergency medical personnel.

Patrol boat CP 2084 was dispatched to the ship, while an ambulance was arranged to meet it at the Coast Guard dock. The crew member was stabilised and brought ashore, where Italy’s 118 emergency medical team was waiting. According to local media, he was subsequently taken to Cattinara Hospital in Trieste. No further information about his condition was reported.

Costa Deliziosa had departed Trieste at the start of a 7-night Eastern Mediterranean cruise, scheduled to return on November 7th. The itinerary includes Bari, Corfu, Syracuse, Valletta and Split, with a sea day between Malta and Croatia.
