Costa Deliziosa

The 2010-built Costa Deliziosa cruise ship is the second LUMINOSA-class liner, with sistership Costa Luminosa.

The vessel (IMO number 9398917) is currently Italy-flagged (MMSI 247282900) and registered in Genoa.

History - construction and ownership

Costa Cruises is a Genoa-headquartered subsidiary company owned by Carnival Corporation. Costa is Europe's second-largest cruise line (after MSC) with year-round operations in the Mediterranean. Costa was founded in 1854 as a cargo shipping company. It started passenger shipping services in 1947, with regular Transatlantic crossings between Europe (Italy) and South America. In 2000, Costa Cruises was acquired by Carnival Corporation (shipowner).

The 2300-passenger ship Costa Deliziosa is relatively smaller-sized and with a more simple design.

Besides the staff and crew, Costa passengers are also served by Peper robots - the latest cyborg technology implemented fleetwide in 2016. These humanoid robots greet and guide passengers upon embarkation. They also assist them throughout the cruise by providing information and tips on onboard dining, entertainment, enrichment program (workshops, pre-scheduled events), casino and shopping promotions, shore excursions and tours. Pepper robots are mobile and communicate in 3 languages (English, German, Italian). They can also interpret human emotions by analyzing voice tones and facial expressions.

Decks and Cabins

Costa Deliziosa staterooms (1130 total, in 14 grades) include 90x Suites, 662x Balconies, 178x Oceanviews, 180x Inside cabins. Most staterooms are sized 185 ft2 / 17 m2 (68% of all) and have a private step-out balcony. Wheelchair-accessible cabins are 23. The largest accommodations are the Grand Suites (455 ft2 / 43 m2, with terrace sized 105 ft2 / 9 m2).

There are also 56x Spa Staterooms (including 4x Spa Suites, 38x Spa Balcony, 14x Spa Inside). Panorama Suites are with scenic (forward and aft) deck locations, sized 370 ft2 / 35 m2, wraparound balconies, large bathrooms (with two sinks and bathtub), VIP amenities (priority embarkation, concierge service, other perks).

The boat has 12 passenger decks, of which 6 are with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Costa Deliziosa's MDR on Deck 2 is named Ristorante Albatross. It is a two-deck-high, vibrantly red venue in the aft of the ship with gorgeous views. What is also great about the layout of Albatross is the way it is designed into smaller areas, each with a different ambiance. The onboard buffet restaurant is Ristorante Buffet Muscadins located on Deck 9. It is open for breakfast, lunch, and tea (late afternoon snack). Muscadins offers a range of stations with European and North American favorites. There is a pizza counter with offerings that are more American than Italian. The buffet is also open on some nights for dinner. Costa Deliziosa also offers a complimentary 24-Hour Room-Service.

Introduced in 2021, "Destination Dishes" are complimentary and available at the MDR's/main dining rooms fleetwide. They are based on individual recipes designed by a "celebrity chef trio" (Bruno Barbieri/Italian, Helene Darroze/French, Angel Leon/Spanish) and interpret the traditional food of the destinations to be visiting by the ship on the following day of the voyage.

Itineraries

Costa Deliziosa itinerary program is based on an annual Around The World Voyage (roundtrip from Europe), spring deployment in the Eastern/Western Mediterranean (also the Black Sea), summer Holy Land and North Africa voyages.

Costa cruise ship Deliziosa was christened in Dubai UAE (Port Rashid Terminal) during the Inaugural cruise from Savona to Dubai (February 5, 2010). And because it's a Muslim territory, at the naming ceremony, a bottle of juice replaced the traditional Champagne "bottle smashing". The ceremony matched Port Rashid's cruise terminal opening.

Deliziosa is the 2nd of Costa's two Luminosa-class liners, with sistership Costa Luminosa. Ship's design is described as a hybrid between Spirit- and Vista-Class. Both Deliziosa and Luminosa are smaller than the typical Costa vessels and built to Panamax specifications (allowing transit through Panama Canal's old locks).

Deliziosa carries 340 original artworks and 4760 prints. The largest cabin is the Panorama Suite (sized 670 ft2 / 64 m2, aft location, with a wraparound balcony).

On December 21, 2015, the liner made its maiden call at USA's second busiest homeport - Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale) Florida.

Costa Deliziosa World Cruise 2021 (CANCELED)

Next table shows the 113-day World Cruise roundtrip from Marseilles, planned for Deliziosa and canceled in late-October 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-related international travel uncertainties. The voyage was priced from USD 14900 per person (with double occupancy).

Available for booking were also the 113-day itinerary from Barcelona to Savona (Jan 15 - May 8) and the 119-day itinerary from Barcelona to Venice (Jan 15 - May 14).

Costa Deliziosa World Cruise 2020

Due to the global pandemic, the itinerary was altered (the voyage was subsequently canceled) as on March 9th Costa Cruises suspended shipping operations fleetwide and globally.
