Costa Deliziosa

The 2010-built Costa Deliziosa cruise ship is the second LUMINOSA-class liner, with sistership Costa Luminosa.

The vessel (IMO number 9398917) is currently Italy-flagged (MMSI 247282900) and registered in Genoa.

History - construction and ownership

Costa Cruises is a Genoa-headquartered subsidiary of Carnival Corporation. Costa is Europe’s second-largest cruise line (after MSC) and operates year-round in the Mediterranean. The company was founded in 1854 as a cargo shipping business and began passenger services in 1947 with regular Transatlantic crossings between Europe (Italy) and South America. In 2000, Costa Cruises was acquired by Carnival Corporation.

The 2300-passenger Costa Deliziosa is relatively smaller and features a simpler design compared to other Costa ships.

In addition to the staff and crew, passengers are also assisted by Pepper robots—humanoid robots introduced fleetwide in 2016. These robots greet and guide guests upon embarkation and provide information and assistance during the voyage on dining, entertainment, enrichment programs (workshops, scheduled events), casino and shopping offers, and shore excursions. Pepper robots are mobile, communicate in English, German, and Italian, and can interpret emotions by analyzing tone of voice and facial expressions.

Decks and Cabins

Costa Deliziosa staterooms (1130 total, in 14 categories) include 90 Suites, 662 Balcony cabins, 178 Oceanviews, and 180 Inside cabins. Most are 185 ft² / 17 m² in size and 68% have a private step-out balcony. There are 23 wheelchair-accessible cabins. The largest accommodations are the Grand Suites (455 ft² / 43 m²) with terraces sized 105 ft² / 9 m².

The ship also has 56 Spa Staterooms (4 Spa Suites, 38 Spa Balcony, 14 Spa Inside), all offering VIP amenities. Panorama Suites are located forward and aft, measuring 370 ft² / 35 m², and feature wraparound balconies, large bathrooms (with two sinks and a bathtub), and exclusive perks (priority embarkation, concierge service).

The vessel has 12 passenger decks, 6 of which have cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

The main dining room on Deck 2 is Ristorante Albatros, a two-deck-high aft venue with panoramic views, divided into smaller sections with unique atmospheres. The buffet restaurant, Ristorante Buffet Muscadins (Deck 9), serves breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea and features European and North American cuisine, including a pizza counter with American-style offerings. The buffet is also open on select nights for dinner. Complimentary 24-hour room service is available to all guests.

Deliziosa and Luminosa were built to a smaller design within the Costa fleet and are aimed at higher-spending travelers. The ship appeals to guests seeking exciting itineraries while still enjoying large-ship amenities such as a full-service spa and extensive kids programs. Facilities include five dining venues, a casino, a theater, a library, a fitness center, four swimming pools, five jacuzzis, and a spa.

Itineraries

Costa Deliziosa’s itinerary program includes an annual Around the World Voyage (roundtrip from Europe), spring cruises in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean (including the Black Sea), and summer voyages to the Holy Land and North Africa.

The vessel (Fincantieri Marghera yard/hull number 6164) has a volume of 92,720 GT, a deadweight (DWT) of 7,500 tons, and a maximum draught of 8.1 meters. The powerplant consists of MAK-Caterpillar marine diesel engines (models 8M43C and 12V43C) with a combined power output of 35.2 MW. The registered shipowner and management company is COSTA CROCIERE S.p.A., while the ISM Manager is CARNIVAL MARITIME GmbH.

Costa Deliziosa was officially delivered by Fincantieri on February 1, 2010, and christened in Dubai, UAE (Port Rashid Terminal) on February 23rd, during the Inaugural Cruise from Savona to Dubai (departed February 5th). As the ceremony took place in a Muslim country, the traditional Champagne bottle was replaced with a bottle of juice. The event also coincided with the opening of Port Rashid's cruise terminal.

Deliziosa was Costa’s first ship to operate an Around the World Cruise (2011). The 100-day itinerary (roundtrip from Savona, December 28th to April 6th, 2012) included visits to 37 ports.

Deliziosa is the second of Costa's two LUMINOSA-class liners, along with her sistership Costa Luminosa. The class is considered a hybrid between Spirit- and Vista-Class designs. Both vessels are smaller than typical Costa ships and were built to Panamax specifications, allowing them to transit the Panama Canal's original locks.

Onboard, Costa Deliziosa displays 340 original artworks and 4,760 prints. The ship’s largest stateroom is the Panorama Suite, measuring 670 ft² (64 m²), located aft and featuring a wraparound balcony.

On December 21, 2015, Deliziosa made her maiden call at the USA's second-busiest homeport, Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), Florida.
