An 8-year-old girl died yesterday, October 14, after falling from an interior atrium to a lower deck of a cruise ship, Miami-Dade Police Department announced.
Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Glory had ended the cruise and docked at PortMiami when the kid fell at ~8:15 am. Emergency personnel transported the girl to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she passed away.
Investigators with police department homicide department are currently working with Carnival to discover details of the accident, police said. According to Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll, the girl may have fallen 20 or so feet from a landing.
Carnival Glory was turned over to Carnival to resume operations, police said.
