Norwegian Cruise Line announced its Pride of America will return to Kailua-Kona on May 30, 2018. The cruise line had previously decided to bypass Kona and Hilo because of the ongoing eruption.

In a statement, NCL said that over the last couple of weeks they had been monitoring the geological conditions on The Big Island of Hawaii and their top priority continued to be the safety and security of their guests and crew.

Earlier in May, Norwegian Cruise Line announced it had been modifying the itinerary of Pride of America in order to ensure guests had the best possible vacation experience.

Officials have been continuously working to let tourists know Hawaii island remains a safe spot to visit.

George Szigeti, Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO, said they were continuing to work with marketing partners to get the word out.

Despite concerns from Hawaii island's businesses, Szigeti said visitor arrivals were actually up but they were concerned about booking pace for the summer months.
