Port Hamburg Breaks Cruise Records

   August 9, 2018 ,   Cruise Industry

The Port of Hamburg broke cruise records again when it received MSC Meraviglia on Thursday, August 9.

For the 2nd time in a row, Cruise Center Steinwerder saw the arrival of a cruise ship carrying over 5000 passengers. 10 days ago, a total of 5085 passengers boarded the vessel in Hamburg to set off on a 10-day voyage.

This is nothing unusual for the operator of the cruise terminal, Cruise Gate Hamburg (CGH). However, high passenger numbers are a challenge. Around a hundred people working at the terminal do the utmost to turn around mega ships like Meraviglia fast and smoothly.

Apart from the staff of Cruise Gate Hamburg, the water police, customs, linesmen, security firms as well as the staff of shipping company’s handling services provider and port agent ensure efficient turnaround.

MSC Meraviglia travels to port of Hamburg in 2018 in her first season there. The ship usually arrives early in the morning between 3:00 and 5:00 o'clock in the darkness.

Meraviglia is the largest cruise liner ever to call at Hamburg.
