Port Canaveral Boasts Record Year

   November 2, 2018 ,   Cruise Industry

Port Canaveral revealed that more cruise passengers than ever before had started their journeys by sailing from the port during the last fiscal year which ended on September 30, 2018.

Traffic through the port has increased by 7.7% over the same period last year.

There is indication that the future will see continued growth in both terms of passenger numbers and variety of vessels sailing from the port. Carnival recently announced their upcoming, unnamed mega ship due to carry around 6,000 guests, will be homeported at Canaveral beginning 2020. A new terminal is being built specifically to deal with the ship's needs.

Currently, Carnival, Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean all have cruise ships that sail out of Port Canaveral year-round. NCL Norwegian Cruise Line operates seasonal voyages from the Florida port, that also serves as a port of call for numerous cruise ships on a variety of itineraries.

The Port marks 65th anniversary of its dedication on November 4. Earlier this year, Canaveral Port Authority members gathered on the front lawn of Port’s Maritime Center to raise commemorative flag, one of a number of events designed to acknowledge the history, success and growth of the port.
