Fire on Costa Smeralda Causes Evacuation

Finish shipyard Meyer Turku revealed that there was a fire on Costa Smeralda's Deck 15 on Monday, March 18.

Stored equipment inside the ship caught on fire at 4:45 p.m. Finnish time after welding started. The fire brigade of the shipyard was first to attend the scene and immediately started firefighting measures. Shortly after, local fire brigades arrived.

Costa Smeralda was evacuated. Work recommenced at approximately 6:15 p.m.

According to the yard, ten people had slightly inhaled smoke while two had had slight injuries checked.

There were also minor material damages with no effect on the ship's building schedule.
