At Least 71 Killed After Ferry Overturns in Iraq

A rescue operation is underway after a ferryboat overturned in Iraq. Overloading and the rise of the water table in Tigris River due to unleashed floodgates are considered the reasons behind the accident.

As a result of the ferry overturned, the death toll climbed to 71, according to the country's Interior Ministry.

Al-Jazeera tourist ferry overturned in the al-Gabat area in Mosul. Most of the citizens onboard were parents and children.

As a result of the ongoing rescue operation, some 55 people, including 19 children, have been saved from the overturned ferry.
