Saudi border guards have rescued a French female passenger on Friday, April 19, after she broke her leg onboard a Costa Cruises ship in the Red Sea.

The 85-year-old woman was traveling aboard Costa Luminosa off south-west Saudi Arabia's coast when Jeddah's Maritime Rescue Coordination Center received an emergency call from King Abdulaziz International Airport’s search & rescue center, saying the passenger needed emergency medical attention. The message was passed to Saudi Arabia Border Guards.

The border guard’s ship Al-Lith was sent to meet the liner close to Al-Qahmah, in the south-western Asir region of the Kingdom.

The border guards spokesman, Lt Col. Misfer Bin Ghanam Al-Qarni, said the patient had been transferred to Jazan, where she had been then taken to Prince Mohammed Bin Nasser Hospital via an ambulance.

Luminosa, which was sailing from Muscat, Oman to Aqaba, Jordan, continued on her voyage.
