Port Canaveral marked its reopening on Thursday, September 5, with the arrival of 6 cruise ships.

The port had been closed since Monday, September 2, due to the expected impact of Hurricane Dorian, that wound up staying 60-80 miles off the coast as it passed east of Brevard County.

The ships arriving at Port Canaveral Thursday morning include Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Elation, Carnival Liberty, Disney Dream, Mariner of the Seas, and Harmony of the Seas.

All but Carnival Ecstasy (based at the Port of Jacksonville) are based at the port. Ecstasy is making Port Canaveral her endpoint for the current voyage and starting point for her next sailing because Jacksonville may experience lingering impacts from Dorian. It is transporting passengers by bus between Port Canaveral-Jacksonville.

In all, around 31,000 passengers were getting off or on their cruise ships at Port Canaveral today. They had extended voyages because the vessels were not able to sail back earlier, as a result of the port's closure.
