First Cruise Ship Departs from Puerto Penasco

After much anticipation, the first cruise ship departed Thursday, January 9, from Puerto Penasco, Mexico, commonly known in the USA as Rocky Point.

CMV Astoria - passenger ship owned and operated by CMV-Cruceros Maritimos Vacacionales - is cruising around Sea of Cortez and scheduled to return back to Rocky Point on January 20.

CMV Astoria set sail on an 11-day “Treasures of the Sea of Cortez” cruise. Over the course of the voyage, the vessel will take passengers to 8 ports along the Sea of Cortez.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages arranged ground transportation out of Phoenix and Tucson to Rocky Point. Most of the guests are anticipated to be Arizonans as well as people from surrounding western states.

There are 3 scheduled departures out of Rocky Point for the Treasures of the Sea of Cortez trip on January 9, January 20, and January 31. Following the 3 cruises, CMV Astoria will move on to other scheduled sailings launching from England in 2020.
