The keel-laying ceremony for Scenic Cruises' ship Scenic Eclipse 2, the world's most luxurious polar cruiser, took place at the 3. Maj dock in Rijeka Croatia, on May 12, 2021.
The keel-laying ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Minister of the Sea, Transport & Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Coric, and other guests.
Eclipse 2 is a luxury polar cruiser worth ~ EUR 170 million being built for the Australian Scenic Group. She is the first newbuild at the dockyard in more than 4 years jointly built by MKM Yachts, Scenic Group's subsidiary in Croatia. 3. Maj, as a subcontractor, will build the hull of the vessel.
In 2020, ~1000 tons of steel were delivered from North Macedonia to the dock due to build the Eclipse II ship.
Scenic Eclipse 2 will be a 6-star ship that is scheduled for delivery in June 2023. Sistership Scenic Eclipse was built in 2019 at Uljanik (Pula, Croatia).
The 220-passenger new ship will be 168 metres long, 21.5 metres wide, in accordance with the latest environmental requirements, reinforced to navigate all seas, including tropical and polar.
Scenic Group intends to build an additional 4 cruise ships of the type in the 3. Maj dockyard, totaling at EUR 860 million.
